The first coffee shop in Oklahoma City was established on Vine Street in 1938 by Bob Schieffer, who served roastitas and other hot drinks from a small tin cup. The shop rapidly became successful, and soon had adozen employees. In 1945, the company moved to its current location on Fourth Avenue South near Gaylord Parkway. At that time it was one of the largest coffee companies in the country with over sixty-five stores across five states. The early years of the twentieth century were difficult for Oklahoma City's coffee industry; however, things began to change after World War II when new technologies made beans more accessible and efficient than ever before. In 1948, Peet's introduced their first espresso machine which quickly became popular among local cafes - this helped fuel demand for quality Turkish-grown beans throughout OKC.
