The Owasso Air Force Base gift history goes back to the early days of the air force when it was just a small airstrip in Owasso. The base was first established in 1941 as a Major Command Post for the European Theater of Operations during World War II. In 1951, the base became an American Forces Europe Command station and then an American Air Force Base in 1953. The air force personnel who worked at AFB Owasso continued their work even after the end of World War II and into the Korean War. The base saw some growth during the Korean War, with more aircraft being brought in to be used on combat missions. After Korea, AFB Owasso became home to America's First Tactical Fighter Wing which operated F-86 Sabres from 1955-1958. In 1978, AFB Owasso became home to America's second Tactical Fighter Wing which operated F-15 Eagles from 1958-1975. In 1992, USAFBaseOwasso transitioned from an American Air Force Base to an active duty United States Air Force installation under the command of Headquarters UASF (Air Combat Command). In response to budget cuts that were implemented by Congress, USAFBaseOwasso closed its doors for good on 1 October 2003 effective 5 October 2003. However, due to its status as a surplus property of USAFBaseOwasso and its easy availability for donation through various online platforms such as eBay and Craigslist, AFB Owasso has been gradually reopened over time by various organizations who have interested in restoring or operating it as a tourist attraction or military training site.

Owasso, Oklahoma was founded in 1907 by Judge John H. Owasso and his wife, Clara. The town was named after John's father, Owen. The Owassos were farmers and cattlemen who ranched in the area for many years. In 1907, they built a small log cabin near the present day intersection of US-69 and US- 71. They began to sell goods from their store to local residents and worked on improving the town's infrastructure including a jail, schoolhouse, post office, water system and irrigation system. In 1922, the Owassos moved their business to what is now Old Main Street in downtown Owasso. They continued to operate their store until 1974 when it closed its doors for good. The building still stands today as part of the downtown core of Owasso. In 1923, Judge Owasso married Edith Murchison who was also from Oklahoma City; they had two children together before she died in 1935. Around this time, the town started to become more popular due to its proximity to Wichita Falls which was then being developed as a major steel center. As Steel production increased throughout the world during World War II, so too did demand for goods made in Owasso such as clothing and hardware stores which helped contribute to its growth over the years."
