Owasso is a city in the Tulsa metropolitan area, located on the Arkansas River. The population was 121,815 at the 2010 census. Owasso's ZIP code is 74060. The first permanent settler in what is now Owasso was Hiram Giles, who arrived in 1868 and named it after his home town of Owensboro, Kentucky. Giles was an early promoter of oil extraction in Oklahoma Territory and began to mine coal near present-day Owasso in 1872. When railroad construction reached Owasso in 1875, prospectors discovered large amounts of oil and gas within a short distance of the city limits. The discovery led to rapid growth for Owasso; by 1880 its population had reached 400 people. In 1907, a group of businessmen led by Charles Henson bought land east of the river and founded Tulsa City Hall; this new location allowed for much more efficient transportation than downtown Tulsa, which was then underdeveloped with few public amenities. In 1913, Tulsa City Council passed an ordinance that banned discrimination against black residents based on their race or color; this ordinance later became known as "the integrate law". Consequently, many African Americans moved to Tulsa during the 1920s during World War II when it became evident that racism would not be tolerated any longer in America; they did so in order to find work opportunities available open to them because black Americans were not currently rewarded fairly enough for their efforts on the job market. During World War II there were also several raids into Owasso by Japanese forces as part of Operation Tomahawk which aimed to destroy all lifeboats afloat inside US waters; however all lifeboats were successfully rescued and no one was killed or injured as a result of these raids

Owasso, Oklahoma is a small town in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was founded in 1907 by settlers from Texas. The town currently has a population of 710 residents. Owasso is the seat of Owasso County and the only incorporated municipality in Oklahoma. It is located on the banks of the Arkansas River, about 20 miles (32 km) north-northwest of Norman and 50 miles (80 km) east-northeast of Tulsa. The area now known as Owasso was first settled by Native Americans, including the Kiowa and Comanche cultures. In 1864, General Phil Sheridan destroyed any village or camps that had been established near what is now Owasso by Order of General Sherman. The inhabitants were forced to march for more than 200 miles (320 km) through hostile country to reach Placerville, Missouri where they were interned until their release in 1865. From there they took up residence around what is now downtown Owasso before returning to their homes in1867 when land became available at what is now its current location.
