The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History in Owasso, Oklahoma began in the early 1990s with the deployment of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines to Kuwait. From that time until the unit's withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2001, Marines and their families have donated items and services to local organizations throughout the area. The Base Greeting card program continues to this day as a means of honoring those who have served our country and providing support for military members and their families. In 1993, when 1/5 Marines deployed to Kuwait for a six-month tour of duty, they brought back a large selection of items including bowls and cups, mugs and plates, tents, chairs, umbrellas and more. This year marks the 20th anniversary of that deployment - an event that has had a significant impact on local community spirit. In honor of that milestone Anniversary we are compiling some selected memories from citizens in Owasso who have interacted with Marines or their families during deployments over the years.
