Canby is a town in Oregon, United States. The population was 5,554 at the 2010 census. It lies in the Soo River Valley west of the city of Portland and east of the city of Eugene. Canby was founded in 1879 by Willard C. Canby as a small agricultural village on the banks of the Soo River. By 1908, it had become an important stop on the Oregon Central Railroad, and by 1930 its population had grown to 7,500. The community grew rapidly during World War II due to its proximity to military installations and its ability to produce munitions plants; Canby's output helped make Oregon one of America's most productive war-time industries. After the war, Canby declined as manufacturing shifted away from eastern Oregon; but it has since rebounded with a variety of businesses including lumberyards, agriculture, fishing and retailing. The current incarnation of Canby began developing after World War II when many families moved from rural areas into towns near Interstate 5 for economic opportunities in postwar America. Many new homes were built along Route 20 which crossed over into downtown Canby from what is now State Route 99E (now US 97). These houses were designed by architects such as Edward Durell Stone and others who worked at nearby Portland’s Willamette School District buildings during that time period. Today there are several dozen surviving original house styles from this time period including Prairie Style, Bungalow/Craftsmanstyle etc., all preserved within their original walls and mortar! Today’s downtown core contains several hundred businesses including numerous grocery stores, pharmacies, mini-marts etc.; as well as two theaters (the Main Street Cinemaplex & CenturyLink Field), four restaurants (including three Chain restaurants plus one independents), two bars/lounges/nightclubs (the Tap Room & Livewire Lounge) as well as five clinics: three primary care physicians plus one specialist; four mental health professionals; two chiropractors; one optometrist; one veterinarian - all with convenient access to I-5 shopping centers located just minutes away or easily accessible via public transportation! In addition there are several dozen residential properties developments scattered throughout various neighbourhoods inside or outside Downtown Canby limits - making this once sleepy farming hamlet into an active community center for walking & biking trails available year round!

Canby, Oregon is a small town in the southeastern corner of Oregon. The population was 5,000 at the 2000 census, and 6,813 as of the 2010 census. The first European residents of what would become Canby were French fur traders who came to the area in 1853. They built a log cabin on an old cattle ranch near present-day Canby in 1856. Gold was discovered nearby in 1859, and by 1862 there were over 20 miners living in the town. The Town Hall was built that year and became operational as a public schoolhouse. A post office opened here in 1865. In 1898, Canby became part of Portland and experienced rapid growth due to its location at the junction of two important railroad lines. This led to an increase in businesses and workers coming into town, which helped make it one of the most prosperous communities in eastern Oregon during this time period. Over time however, economic volatility caused Canby's population to decline by about 15%. In recent years however, some redevelopment has taken place that has helped revive downtown canby while also adding new housing options for residents. Thanks to its many historical landmarks dating back to 1800s such as pioneer Fort Bridger (now used as a museum), Canby is often called "the birthplace of Oregon."
