The United States Army National Guard has been present in Lake Oswego for over 160 years. The first units to arrive in the area were troops from Oregon Territory, led by Captain John McLoughlin. The problem with this small detachment was that they had no artillery or support forces to help them fight their wars. In 1847, General Jedediah Smith ordered the creation of a military post in Lake Oswego, and the first troops garrisoned here arrived on July 1st,1847. A year later, on October 15th, 1848, General James K. Polk called for all US troops stationed in Oregon to be mustered into service and sent to California as part of his campaign against Mexico. This call finally gave impetus to the development of what would become the Army National Guard in Oregon. In 1903-1904, during World War I (the war to end all wars), the Army National Guard was mobilized and Federal funding was available for armament purchases totaling $3 million dollars which allowed for an increase in strength from 2100 officers and men at one point up to 4200 officers and men by 1919. During World War II (1939-1945), when resources were scarce due to wartime mobilization efforts and recession within America’s economy alike, General George Custer’s 5th Cavalry Regiment became responsible for guarding both army installations at Fort Hoskins along with other government properties including airfields at Ladd Air Force Base and Shipyards Naval Auxiliary Landing Zone #1 adjacent Newport News Shipbuilding Company yards less Dewey Point Naval Station because these activities constituted peacetime use only and there was never any active or combat operations associated with those facilities during wartime]. Army National Guard members have participated in many conflicts throughout history including World War II where they served as part of various commands such as 1st Infantry Division (old 3rd Infantry Division) known as “The Big Red One”; 2nd Infantry Division which fought under Patton's Third Army during Normandy Invasion; 7th Armored Regiment Deployed To Europe And Participated In Norwegian Campaign 1965-1966 & Desert Storm 1999 Army Reserve Components also took part In Gulf War 1990

The United States Army Garrison at Lake Oswego was established in 1898 as a training ground for the Oregon Infantry. The first soldiers who arrived here were from California, and it was only after World War I that reinforcements began to arrive from the states of New York, Illinois, and Minnesota. After World War II, the army vacated the site and it became an open-air recreation area. In 1957, a new barracks complex was built on the site. Today, the army operates a number of military units stationed at the garrison including: The 11th Mountain Division (a National Guard unit), The 82nd Airborne Division (a Special Forces unit), The 8th Marine Regiment (a marines regiment), And The 244th Engineer Battalion (an engineer battalion).

Lake Oswego is a beautiful, turquoise-blue body of water located in the Willamette Valley of Oregon. It was formed by two melting glaciers that carved out a valley in the high mountains of this area. The name Oswego comes from one of the local tribes and means "place where there are many fish." The first people to live around Lake Oswego were the Malheur People. They hunted game near the lake and collected shellfish and other seafood. The Malheur people were also known for their construction skills, including building lodges, dams, and roads. In 1853, gold miners started coming to Oregon looking for nuggets worth hundreds of dollars each. They discovered rich deposits of gold at nearby Mount Hood and Rushmore National Lakes. However, because it was too dangerous to venture into these areas with heavy equipment, most of these miners didn't find any gold until after 1858 when an American Fur trader named George Henson came to Oregon and found some nuggets at Battle Ground on the north side of Lake Oswego. Henson called this site Ganges Hill because he thought it resembled a Hindu Kush mountain peak. The first towns built around Lake Oswego were Battle Ground (1857), Canby (1860), Gold Beach (1861), Dunsmuir (1864), Salmon Falls (1866), Hanford City (1901), North Bend (1905). Of these towns, only Battleground continued as a commercial center until the early 1920s when it became a ghost town due to its lack of industry or population growth. Over time, other smaller communities sprung up around Lake Oswego such as Anacortes (1920), Seaside Heights(1924), Safeco Field(1945) and Wellesley Hills(1963). Today there are over 100 businesses located in or near LakeOswgone which makes it one of the most visited tourist destinations in Oregon!
Oregon's history can be traced back to the time when the area was part of Mexico. The first people to live in this area were the Yurok and Shoshone. In 1839, California took over Oregon, and the Yurok and Shoshone were forced to leave. The first European settlers came to Oregon in 1847, and they started a small town called Corvallis. The town was abandoned in 1852 because of a drought that had struck the area. A small community called Tomahawk was founded near present-day Portland in 1858 by pioneers from Illinois. There were only 10 people living in Tomahawk when it was founded, but it grew quickly because of its location and access to water. In 1861, a group of farmers from Illinois formed a company namedThe Willamette Valley Railroad Company to build a railroad betweenPortland and Salem. This project became successful, and many new settlers began arriving in the Willamette Valley. By 1870, there were more than 100 people living in Tomahawk. In 1863, Oregon became an independent state, and Tomahawk became one of the few towns within its boundaries that wasn't destroyed during World War II (the other towns within Oregon that experienced damage during war are Beaverton, Gresham, Bend and Eugene). Today, Tomahawk is home to several businesses such as Lowe's Home Hardware and Safeway grocery store
