Gourmet Coffee History in the Dalles, Oregon Since the early 1800s, coffee has been a part of American culture. Some of the first coffee plants were located in what is now the city of Dalles, Oregon. The town was founded by General David Hunter and his men during the gold rush period in 1849. During that time, many people traveled through Dalles looking for new opportunities to find wealth and treasure. One of these people was Captain John McLaughlin who decided to set up shop on Second Street near present-day Highway 97. In 1850,Captain McLaughlin opened his store under the name "McLaughlin's Coffee House." The first coffee beans grown in this area were used to produce McClellan's Coffee which was distributed throughout Oregon and Northern California at that time. After a while, Captains McLaughlin and others realized that they could not only produce great coffee but also sell it at a high price so they decided to expand their business into other areas such as trade shows and banquets. They also started selling ground coffee which soon became very popular because it had a finer quality than most other types of coffee. In 1853, Captain John McLaughlin founded what would become known as The Dalles Coffee Company Limited with his brother-in-law Abram Perkins. At its peak, The Dalles Coffee Company operated over twenty businesses around the town including mills where they ground and brewed their beans. They also bought various acreage within town for future plantations which produced more beans and greater profits for them both financially and emotionally. In 1916 The Gourmet Coffee Magazine published an article about some of America's oldest independent roasters whose products still form an integral part of today’s gourmet coffee industry: Captains John McCloughlin (DALLES COFFEE COMPANY), Abram Perkins (ABRAM PENNSYLVANIA COFFEE COMPANY), & Frank Henniker (FRANK HENNIKER COFFEE COMPANY). This success story led to increased interest in local coffees from customers all over North America as well as global export markets due to advances in technology at that time!

After tasting this unique beverage for the first time he sent his servant back with some more money so that he could purchase more beans! By 1557 AD, espresso had spread throughout Italy as well as Spain and Portugal where it began being consumed as a morning tea drink by Portuguese nobility. Coffee became even more popular when Spaniards discovered Americas where it continued to be enjoyed by their Spanish citizens until 1621 AD when English sailors explored Florida and found sweet pepper plantations there which prohibited its importation into England until 1624AD! From then on Espresso was frequently used as a term for any type of bitter black liquor or green teas exported from overseas colonies such as Brazil (1853), Colombia (1910), Peru (1932) etc., This migration of different types of Beans resulted in an ever-changing palette of flavors extracted from fresh roast bean products available today all over the world!

The Dalles is a small town in Polk County, Oregon, United States. The population was 1,026 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Willamette River and is about forty miles (64 km) east of Portland. Dalles post office was established in 1892 and has been in operation since then. The community name comes from John Wesley Dalles, who came to the area in 1884 as a member of the ill-fated Oregon Trail Party. He founded what became known as the "Dalles armory" on land he had acquired along the riverbank. In 1902, an electrical substation was built by J.P Marquis and it remains operational today. In 1943, during World War II, the U.S. Navy constructed two large naval airfields at nearby Siletz Bay: Naval Air Station Shilo and Naval Air Station Kaneohe Bay; both were eventually sold to private interests and are now inactive sites used for agricultural purposes. Naval Air Station Whidbey Island also operated out of Dalles from 1941 to 1945; however its primary purpose was providing training for Japanese military pilots before their surrender at Japan's surrender Gardens on September 2 that year. After 1945, NAS Dalles served as headquarters for Marine Corps aviation operations until its closure in 1987; it is now home to Marine Corps Base Lewis-Clark National Monument). In 1905, Dalles annexed land to its west side from Mercer Island to make way for an express train station complex that would become known as "the Junction." During World War II, Dalles was home to some of the most important military installations in Puget Sound; including Boeing Airplane Factory No 1 (nowite), Lockheed Aircraft Company's Renton facility (#4), Fort Point Naval Base (#8), Tacoma Army Airfield #2 (later Foster Airport) (#10) and Navy Yard No 3 (now Kitson Park). All were closed down during or after World War II but have since been reborn as new businesses or neighborhoods within DALLES itself - exemplified by Harborview Towers, one of Northwest's tallest apartment buildings constructed largely around aluminumclad decks atop reinforced concrete Englewood towers dating back to 1978-79!
