Small batch coffee culture has been around in The Dalles, Oregon for over a century. The first small batch coffee shop opened up in 1916 and continued to serve delicious cups of coffee until 1978. Today, there are still many small batch coffee shops in the city of The Dalles, as well as throughout Oregon. The history of smallbatch coffee can be traced back to 1915 when Harry Fenton opened his first smallbatch cafe in downtown Portland. At that time,Portland was known for its robust espresso drinks and local roasts were just starting to gain popularity. Fenton's cafe served delicious cups of joe all day long and became a popular tourist attraction. Over the next few decades, other small batch cafes popped up all over the Portland area. Many of these cafes specialized in specific types of coffee - such as Ethiopian or Guatemalan - which helped contribute to their popularity. In 1978, Harry Fenton's cafe finally closed its doors after more than 50 years of continuous operation! However, his legacy is still felt today within the community due to the countless cups of amazing java that he provided for customers all throughout Portland!

It is located on the south bank of the Willamette River and is about 22 miles east of Portland. Dalles is named after Salmon Pelly, an early settler in the area. The first post office was established in 1882 by Captain John Fitch and his wife, Mrs. Martha Turner Dodge. The name may be derived from the word "dal" meaning “clear stream” or "oasis." Dalles has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa), with hot summers and cold winters. Precipitation averages around 100 millimeters per year though it can range as high as 150 mm during very wet months such as October or November when records go back to 1881. Summers are usually sunny butsometimes cloudy with occasional showers; winter sees mainly foggy days and some snowfalloccasionally

The Dalles was a small town in Oregon before the arrival of the railroad. The first European to visit the area was a man named David Thompson in 1843, who named it after his home place, Haida Gwaii. A post office called The Dalles was established in 1847, and remained in operation until 1975. In 1865, John C. Frémont explored the North Cascades and discovered the Columbia River Valley. When he learned of this finding, he decided to explore what lay beyond the Cascade Range. He traveled upriver to The Dalles and began to build a road from Portland to Sacramento. This road would later be called California Railroad Company Road 1/2 mile south of present day The Dalles Boulevard. A sawmill onthe riverbank were started by George Prentice in 1867 which became one of the most important business operations around here for many years until it closed its doors in 1974 due to lack of customers or competition from other mills around town. In 1870-71 Captain Aiken founded Post Office No 2 at The Dalles with store goods and mail deliveries only being made once every two weeks or so due to long distances involved thus postponing more widespread growth of this village until after World War II when Interstate 5 replaced railroads as transportation mainstay throughout much of Oregon making travel within easy reach for most people
