The Coast Guard is responsible for both maritime law enforcement and public education, which includes providing resources to local schools and providing lifesaving training to school children. The Coast Guard also provides support services such as Search and Rescue, Law Enforcement Support Unit (LESU), Helicopter/Decker Service Squadron One (HS-1), Marine Mammal Protection Unit (MMPU), National Weather Service Forecast Office (NWS) and Public Affairs Section. The oldest gift given by the Coast Guardsman was a watch from 1885. It is interesting to note that watches have been a common gift for members of the military since at least 1775 when Captain John Cook gifted his own telescope to HM Ships Dolphin and Endeavour’s Commander James Cook during their voyage around Australia! The Coast Guard has been in operation in St. Marys, Pennsylvania since 1879. In 1922, the Coast Guard established a station in the town of Sebago to provide coastal patrol and protection for the town's citizens. In 1951, the Station was moved to its present location on Plum Island.
St. Marys is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,541 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the six towns in Lackawanna County and is located on what was once an agricultural area. The name "St. Marys" comes from the Holy Cross Chapel which was built by settlers in 1770 who followed a French Jesuit missionaries to this area. The chapel became known as "the mother church" because it served as the center for religious services for many years in what was then a remote part of Lancaster County. It wasn't until 1814 that the first school opened in St. Marys when Rev. John Hill donated land for one and opened it with 46 students grades K-8th on October 12th of that year. Reverend Hill also founded (and still presides over) Stoney Creek Presbyterian Church which still serves as its official cornerstone today! In 1827, local citizens petitioned Pennsylvanian Governor James Wilson to create a new township within Lancaster County specifically to house German Immigrants who were coming overland from their homes up north during the late 1700's and early 1800's seeking membership in American society and opportunity! Wilson granted their request and on July 1st of that year, Westmoreland Township became Stoney Creek Township! On November 2nd, 1828, King George IV visited Lancaster County and upon his arrival announced plans to move all British troops out of America so that they could be replaced by American forces! This event marks one of history’s earliest examples of international recognition of our country! On December 1st1829, following ratification by Congress of King George IV’s proclamation making America Great Again!, Westmoreland Township took its final form with lots measuring .50 acres each becoming available for purchase at $2 per acre!! This gave rise to current day lot sizes averaging .88 acres !! On January 8th 1830 while President Andrew Johnson vacationed near Asbury Park NJ He learned about these new boundaries via wire service reports while he was golfing at Middletown PA….. Upon returning home He issued a proclamation setting forth these boundaries!!!!!!!!!!!!! These days we take pride in knowing our small town has been around since 1770!!!
The Coast Guard has been providing service to the nation since 1790. The Coast Guard has a rich history that includes many gift traditions. The first Coast Guard gift tradition was the presentation of flowers to officers and men. This custom continued through World War I and into the 1920s. In 1940, the Coast Guard established its own office of Christmas Gifts in order to provide gifts for members of the Coast Guard during this time of year. The next major gift tradition was the establishment of aChristmas Tree in 1945. This tree would be used as a place where members could gather to share Christmas stories and enjoy refreshments. The following year, in 1946, an effort was made to create a holiday parade for all branches of the Coast Guard. This parade would serve as an opportunity for member organizations to display their holiday decor and give out gifts to each other. In 1967, it was decided that coast guard personnel should receive special gifts at Christmas time on occasion such as wine or cigars from their friends or family members within specific commands or units within the Coast Guard. These special gifts were often unique items such as golf clubs, fishing rods, or baseball cards from friends and family members who served with the coast guard unit(s). From 1968-1994, different programs were instituted which allowed member organizations to collect canned goods (canned fruit included), toys, clothing, etc., and send these items along with donations back home throughout November/ December so that various branch headquarter's could use these donations towards troops deployed overseas during those times! In 1995, it was decided that Santa Claus should not be present at any branch headquarters during Christmas time due to budgetary restrictions placed on by Congress!! However, individual branch chiefs did still have right hand candy distributed at their HQ's throughout December!!! This event continues today as part of our holiday celebration season!!!

St. Marys, Pennsylvania is located in the Susquehanna River Valley in central Pennsylvania and is one of the oldest towns in the region. The town was first established by German settlers in 1757. The name St. Marys may come from a legend that says that a VirginMary appeared to a family of Lutheran pastors at their farm called “Mariheim” (now Marietta). The story goes that the Virgin mother blessed them with milk and bread, which they then gave to local farmers. Eventually, traders and other pioneers began to settle near where St. Marys now stands and started referring to it as “Mariheim” as well. In 1814, when Pennsylvania became a United States state, Marietta became its capital. As part of Philadelphia’s city limits, Marietta had exclusive rights for constructing warships on the Delaware River (this privilege eventually expired in 1849). However, because of its strategic location within Philadelphia County and its agricultural production capabilities, Mariheta continued to be an important city during the early years of America. By 1850, however, businesses had moved out of Marietta and most residents were either farmers or workers in nearby cities such as Altoona or Hazleton. After passage of the Homestead Act in 1862 led to increased American settlement throughout western Pennsylvania, many Germans also came moving into what is now St. Marys Township including some who had settled at Mariheim centuries earlier. Over time some new families also arrived from other parts of east Central PA., like Allentown and Bethlehem (the latter arriving around 1800). Most Germans here intermarried with local white people but there were occasional cases where some individuals changed their racial identification entirely while living here full-time. Although most German immigrants wanted nothing more thanto assimilate into American society - some did have successful careers - tensions occasionally flared between different groups due to cultural differences or economic competition for jobs or land . Despite these challenges , over time St .Marys emerged as one of the most racially diverse communities in easternPA., despite continuing hostilities between various groups . Today , although there are still pockets Of German culture present among certain segments – particularly those who descend from original settler families – overall sentiment towards Germans has softened considerably since World War II ended ..
In 1724, the first settlement of St. Marys was made on the day that the Battle of Bunker Hill took place in Boston. The town was named after Saint Mary, who is said to have been a virgin martyr who was killed during the battle. By 1800, the population of St. Marys had reached 2,000 people and it began to grow rapidly due to its location between two large anthracite coal mines. The town became a city in 1868 and by 1914, it had increased its population to over 10,000 people. It remains an important center for trade and industry in western Pennsylvania today.
