In 1775, General Anthony Wayne landed his troops at Trenton , NJ on November 12th after leading them through Long Island Sound from Staten Island . On December 14th or 15th Wayne met General Howe at Monmouth Junction where both generals decided that military action against British forces was unnecessary and instead turned their attention towards Fort Niagara . However weeks later on January 1st Howe ordered all American army units west of Lake Ontario into action against British forces near Saratoga Springs so called Ranger Raiding Party led by Major Jonathan Carrow (16). Aftermath: Over 100 Americans were killed & many more wounded including Mr Carrow himself during this operation which has been seen as one of the most pivotal moments in American independence fighting

In 1776, the first Baptist church in St. Marys was built. The pastor at that time was Rev. John Tomlinson. In 1813, a second Baptist church was built and served as the parish center until 1832 when it burned down. In 1865, a third Baptist church was built and served for about 20 years until it caught on fire and collapsed in 1917. A Methodist Episcopal chapel serving this area originally stood on the site of the now demolished original Baptist church. It was replaced in 1931 by a new Methodist chapel which still stands to this day.
