The Clarksville National Guard was one of the first units to be activated in Tennessee in 1861. The unit was originally called the Volunteer Infantry Regiment and was organized on October 25, 1861. It was also the first unit to be mobilized for service in Tennessee under the Confederate States of America. The regiment served until April 1865. During its time, it lost more than 60% of its membership due to military conflict and natural disaster. However, the unit still managed to maintain a strong presence in Tennessee and continue providing support to local government through militia duties.
