The United States Army has been a part of Tennessee's history for over 125 years. The army first arrived in the state in 1775 and was called the Tennessee Volunteers. The army was founded by General Andrew Jackson, who served as its first commander. In 1812, the army moved to Collierville after General James K. Polk ordered it to move out of Tennessee because of the war with Mexico. The army garrisoned here until 1815 when it left for California. The navy also played a significant role in Tennessean history. It arrived in Collierville on April 12, 1861, during the Civil War and quickly became an important part of Tennessean society and politics. After Confederate forces captured Nashville on May 12, 1861, Commodore John Farragut ordered his navy to blockade Confederate ports in order to starve them into submission. This allowed Union forces to enter Nashville and capture many Confederate prisoners and supplies while sparing residents their lives. Today, the United States Army Garrison is still located at Camp Forrest which is home to more than 20,000 troops and their families from all over the country. The modern-day military presence in Collierville dates back to World War II when General George Smedley decided that this small town would be a staging ground for training new soldiers for service overseas. He purchased land here and constructed a large parade ground where soldiers could practice marching, shooting artillery pieces and other combat skills without having any real danger lurking around them like they did overseas). In addition to Camp Forrest, there are several smaller camps scattered throughout Collierville including Fort Whitecastle (home to machineguns), Fort Hindman (home to tanks) and Fort Donelson (home to artillery). Collierville is a small town in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. Collierville is located on the banks of the White River. The first known inhabitants of this region were the Algonquian-speaking Choctaw people who constructed their villages near what is now Collierville in 1796. In 1812, General Andrew Jackson's army sacked and burned all but one village in what is now Collierville during his campaign against Native American insurgents. The only survivor was Chief Powhatan's daughter Pocahontas; she moved to Philadelphia with her father and later married John Quincy Adams. In 1836, George Waggoner purchased 640 acres (246 hectares) of land east of Collierville from David Fisk for $3,000 cash and built a log cabin which served as the nucleus for what would become Collierville. By1860, there were over 100 houses inCollierville and it had grown to its current size of 1,611 residents. On February 16, 1865, Union Army lieutenant colonel James Hance led an attack against Confederate sharp shooter Major John Hunt Morgan inside Fort Pillow near present-day Lebanonville while Morgan was drilling soldiers on hills east of Shiawassee River Bridge just south of town limits. Seventy men died or were wounded in that fierce engagement which ended with Major Hunt's capture after leading a cavalry charge into town square where he surrendered without resistance before being taken by military police to nearby Fort Donelson for trial on charges including treasonous activity against the United States government In 1876during Reconstruction following the Civil War white Democrats regained control over state governments throughout Tennessee following passage of The Fifteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution which granted citizenship to all citizens regardless of race or color In 1881 Samuel Chapman bought 640 acres (246 hectares) northwest of town limits from Gresham Hawkins for $8500 cash and laid out a small farmerstown called Chapman Springs on three miles (5 km) long by two miles (3 km) wide along White River which became collierville today ! In 1898 he sold additional 206 acres (~70%of current parcel) adjacent to his original farmstead including approximately 50 buildings situated around 9 miles (~6 km) long by 2½ miles (~3 km) wide centered around Post Office & general store building still standing today! Today collierville has 7 churches & 10 schools total with approx 1400 residents

Collierville was founded in 1871 by William Dickey and named for John C. Collierville, an officer in the Confederate army who helped to organize the town after the war. The first post office in Collierville was established on October 17, 1871. The name of the town came from John C. Collierville's participation in a land purchase that led to its establishment. In 1875, Collierville had a blacksmith shop and two stores. A sawmill and grist mill were also built around this time. In 1902, colliery mining began operations at nearby Copper Hill Mine and these soon became one of the largest coal mines in America due to their quality and location deep within Tennessee mountainsides near what is now known as downtown Memphis. Coal production continued until 1960 when it was replaced by oil production due to environmental concerns over underground mine workings dating back to pre-Prohibition days when coal was burned off site for heat rather than shipped offsite as it is today with transportation costsomo
Collierville was founded in 1872 by a group of Congregationalists. The town quickly grew, and in 1876 it became the county seat of Knox County. In 1938, Collierville was incorporated as a city.
