The Baytown Coast Guard Station has been providing law enforcement and emergency services to the community since 1922. The station is located on FM 516 in Baytown, Texas and is a vital part of the local government. The Coast Guard Station provides patrols along the Corpus Christi Ship Channel as well as protection for coastal communities in Baytown, Clear Lake, and elsewhere. In 1922, the Texas coast guard was authorized by state legislature to be established within the Department of Public Safety. The first commissioner of the Texas coast guard was Captain H.L. Bateson who served from 1922-1929. In 1929 Captain Harry Ladd assumed command of the coast guard station at Baytown after having served as acting commissioner during Captains John Epps’s absence on leave. Captain Ladd organized a patrol squadron which he named “The Gulf Patrol Squadron” in memory of his fallen friends Lieutenant Commander Earl Pritchard (Gulf Patrol Squadron No 1), First Class (USNR) and Petty Officer Second Class (USN) who lost their lives while protecting Mexican nationals anchored off Corpus Christi on July 10, 1928 while under orders from Majestic Fleet flagship White Star II commanded by Rear Admiral JF Leasure. No more than 12 men were accompanying officer and crew; 6 Marines were also aboard ship when tragedy struck when Pritchard's partner LTJG Harold Denny fell overboard into deep water caused by engine failure shortly before nightfall after making a rendezvous with another vessel offshore from Corpus Christi harbor bound for Galveston Island with fresh catch for market that night; all six men lost their lives saving many others including those holding Peshtigo Basin Marina where they stopped to purchase food supplies that night; this is one of only two such tragedies in peacetime history involving US Naval forces against an enemy nation resulting in death or injury to American citizens ashore-the other occurred when Ensign Alfred Matson RN crashed his small plane into a power plant near Point Isabellet Newfoundland on December 14th 1941 during Operation Neptune's Spear). Pilot First Class Leroy Geiger RN accomplished an unprecedented landing at Galveston Island without assistance from UH-1 Hueys which had been airborne all day supporting Marine Command Element operations ashore as part of Operation Neptune's Spear vectoring air strikes against Japanese targets throughout Japan); prior to geiger operation no US Marine had ever landed unassisted on any island outside Japan - this represents perhaps the most accomplished amphibious landing ever attempted by United States military forces In 1949, Coast Guard Station Baytown became dedicated to service within the Texas Military Forces upon its conversion from civilian control to military status following World War II hostilities between America and Great Britain & Canada. At this time Commissioned Officers serving with TF Texaco received unique insignia representing their corps/divisional affiliation with USMC units stationed throughout Southwestern USA & Mexico City Prussian Embassy compounds - these insignia are still worn today by members assigned exclusively to duty at TXCFB/Baytown Municipal Airport Joint Training Center] . Baytown is a city in Brazoria County, Texas, United States. The population was 532 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Brazoria County. Baytown is located on the Gulf Coast about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of Galveston and 25 miles (40 km) east of Houston. The first permanent settler in what is now Baytown was James Bowie in 1836. Bowie's Landing served as the terminus of a wagon road from Galveston to Houston and points north. In 1839, General Sam Houston bought two thousand acres (930 ha) along Buffalo Bayou for $10 per acre ($2,000/km²). The town site was surveyed by Edward Ladd during November 1840 and awarded to Houston for his services as governor of Texas during the Mexican–American War. Houston's new capital, Harrisburg, became too small for the needs of the state government and he decided to build a new capital on an old military post called Fort Worth in 1845. Baytown followed suit soon after and became its new capital when Fort Worth failed to become self-sufficient. By 1850, Baytown had over 10,000 residents and it continued to grow until it reached its peak growth around 1900 when it had over 30,000 residents

Baytown was founded in 1853 by Anglo-Saxon settlers who named it after British American merchant George Baynton. The first post office in Baytown was established on October 16, 1853, and served as the town's only stop until November 7, 1857 when San Antonio became a municipality. The current post office building was built in 1949 and is located at 201 W Main Street. Baytown has been home to many large businesses such as Texaco, Shell, Lucent Technologies, Dow Chemical Company and AT&T Incorporated since the early days of its incorporation as a municipality. These companies have all left their mark on Baytown through their products and services that have been offered to the community over the years. The present-day downtown area of Baytown was once an agricultural center with immense acreage irrigated by water from Sabine River south to Brownsville and east to Hearst Castle. However, during World War II much of this land was requisitioned for military purposes which led to a decline in agricultural activity around Baytown while other portions became heavily industrialized including Texaco Oil Refinery where thousands of workers were employed during the early years of that company’s history; later it became part of ExxonMobil Corporation becoming one of America’s most important oil refineries before being sold off again in 2007 to Syngenta AG (formerly Monsanto) for $24 billion making it one of world’s largest private sector divestitures ever recorded at Rubin “Lenny” Abramovitz & Co., LLP (RAB). This change also impacted local economy which relied upon agriculture for more than 50% GDP until 2000 when manufacturing picked up quickly due largely to growth within various technology companies attracted by nearby NASA Johnson Space Center facilities along I-35W corridor; now those same companies are struggling with job losses associated with sustained economic recession throughout TX & US overall since late 2009 onward
