Cedar Park is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 571 at the 2010 census. Cedar Park is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area. Cedar Park was founded by settlers in 1881, and incorporation as a city occurred on December 3, 1886. The name Cedar Park comes from the cedar tree that once grew there and supplied wood for building in town. The first post office in Cedar Park opened on October 22, 1881. The first town meeting was held on November 8th of that year to decide what form the new town should take. It decided to be called "Cedar Park". In 1889, Citizens of Cedar Park organized themselves into a Board of Trade to manage affairs such as trade shows and other events important to their community. In 1902-1903, the City Council built two blocks east of Main Street (now Elmendorf Road) parkland which became known as "Cedar Rapids" after Iowa's capital city - Des Moines. On January 1st 1907 Mayor J C Kapp dedicated Centennial Square located between First and Second Streets East with an obelisk honoring those who had helped make Cedar Park one of America's most successful small towns during its early years - more than $10 000 were contributed by citizens throughout 1907 alone! On this date also local newspapers reported that “a special fund has been raised” amounting to $6000 for build a public library within El Paso County (!), making it one of only 10 such funds ever raised statewide! In 1916-1917 developers Wm H Hamer & Sons developed what became known as "Hamertown", just southwest of downtown Cedar Parks limits on Cemetery Road/US 287W; this became home to many notable residents including future US Senator Lloyd Bentsen (D-TX) who lived there from 1922 until his death in 1949). This period saw much growth around Hamertown with annexations from other towns and later subdivisions becoming available; see map below for some detailed locations: A fire destroyed the old post office building at Third and Elm streets East on May 20th 1921 . The new post office opened July 1st 1921 . It replaced an earlier structure burned down in 1910 . Mayor John Cushing was quoted when he dedication said: “This fine brick structure will become increasingly valuable as time goes on – it is not only our Post Office but also an excellent example of Administration Center architecture which we hope will be found near all our Institutions” Allocated Funds amounted to $3000 according to 1919 Taxation rolls however no physical replacement has been found since then!
