Cedar Park is a city in Houston County, Texas, United States. The population was 21,917 at the 2010 census. Cedar Park is the principal city of the Cedar Park–Montgomery County Combined Statistical Area. It is also part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Cedar Park were French traders in 1718. The area that became Cedar Park was settled by Anglo-American farmers and ranchers in 1859. The first post office in what is now Cedar Park was established on December 2, 1860, under the name of Glen Haven. In 1865, John Kirby built a log cabin here which served as his headquarters for some time during the civil war. In 1872 Jimmie Grimes founded "The Gazette" newspaper in Fort Worth and moved his printing press to Cedar Park; it continued publication until 1915. Grimes also donated land for a park here called "Grimes Prairie". In 1886 another early settler, Jens Jensen (John Jens), opened a general store here at Main and Elm streets; he sold goods from his store direct to customers through Hiscox's stage coach route from Fort Worth to Montgomery Countyseat (now Dallas). A hotel named after him was built on this site in 1918; it burned down in 1950. One of the most important aspects of the Guardsman’s job is their organization and discipline which are often called on to provide support for local law enforcement agencies when needed. This tradition began with early militias which acted as self-defense against Indian attack or banditry outside their own communities. Militia service eventually evolved into an organized military force that could be mobilized quickly to assist state governments during times of crisis or emergency. In 1917, Congress passed legislation authorizing the formation of national guardsmen detachments within each state so that these troops could serve without recall or call up if called into federal service (the concept of an activated reserve). Cedar Park is a small town in the Texas Hill Country. The name probably comes from the cedar trees that line the streets. The first settlers in Cedar Park were farmers who arrived around 1857. They started a mill, but it was destroyed by fire in 1861. In 1865, Cedar Park became a post office and then an agricultural center. There were several mills and churches here before World War I destroyed most of them. After the war, Cedar Park continued to grow as a bedroom community for Dallas. However, it became an industrial town with heavy manufacturing during the 1960s and 1970s, when Cedar Park attracted big companies like Lockheed Martin and Dow Chemical. However, since 2000 some new businesses have begun to open up in Cedar Park, including restaurants and nightlife venues like The Rave nightclub which has been making waves in the city for years now. Today, Cedar Park is home to about 4,000 people and is one of the few towns in Texas that still retains its historic architecture dating back to slavery days (1849-1860). It was also crucial during World War II as cotton production increased here because of its location on US Highway 6 between Amarillo and Texarkana; military aircraft based at nearby Fort Worth took off from here for missions over Japan during World War II!
