The brothers started production of coffee beans at their family farm near Ennis, Texas. In 1916, they opened a small shop on Elm Street in town. By the early 1920s, they had developed a leading position in the coffee industry and began to sell their beans through independent merchants throughout North Texas and Oklahoma. They exported their beans to other parts of the United States and Europe. The company continued to grow until it merged with another small roaster, Roasters Inc., in 1985.

Ennis, Texas is a town located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 5,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo metropolitan area and is included in the Amarillo–Nacogdoches Micropolitan Statistical Area. Ennis was founded by Captain John Fenton and his family on November 12, 1836, as Fort Fenton on an undeveloped tract near modern-day Fruitland. On February 17, 1839, Fenton resigned from military service to open a trading post and store in what is now downtown Ennis with business partners James Hance and Moses Brownell. In 1845, Fort Fenton was abandoned due to lack of interest from settlers; it reverted to Indian ownership until it became leased to white ranchers Harry Slaughter and Wm. Peebles in 1865 for cattle ranching operations; this property later became Slaughter Ranch State Park (now Slaughter County). In 1870, Lubbock entrepreneur George Bird Griggs purchased land east of Ennis along the Red River for sheep farming purposes; this ranch eventually became known as birdie Mesa because many White Sands Towers were built on its expansive grounds during that time period. The railroad arrived in Ennis in 1901 when Texans Tom Haney and Chauncey Gardner started construction of the San Antonio Union Pacific Railroad between San Antonio and Lubbock under contract by oilman Edwin DeShields Field; initial services were operated over two track between San Antonio and Gainesville before being extended northeast to Ennis on May 31, 1902 . The first train through town ran westbound on Main Street while tracks led south down US 84 towards Buffalo Gap/Wichita Falls past present-day Black Mesa Cemetery before crossing into Slaughter County just north of present-day downtown Ennis where Amtrak's "Pecos" pulls up to the depot several times each day for passengers coming from Dallas/Fort Worth or Austin/San Marcos; today only one stop operates at this location: access to Black Mesa Cemetery provides visitors with a unique perspective of both towns while also providing opportunities for observation of grazing herds of cowboy dogs working around some old mission buildings nearby.
