Hardin was a noted coffee farmer and buyer in the area. His beans were sold to various merchants and farmers who transported them to different parts of the United States. The first roasters in Freeport were Mr. and Mrs. Capps Coffee Roasters, who opened their business in 1957. They continued to roast fresh coffee until they closed their business in 1984. In 1994, Mr. and Mrs. Weems reopened their business as Missoula Coffee Company and continued to roast fresh coffee until they closed it in 2006 also. At that time, the last batch of beans from these two businesses was processed and roasted by Donnybrook Coffee Cooperative located near Fort Worth, Texas which started roasting fresh coffee in 2007-2008."

Freeport is a small town in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first Freeport residents were white men who came to the area for work on the nearby Haskell-Langland mine during the 1850s. By 1875, there were over 100 people living in Freeport. In 1902, a post office was established and soon became an important stop on the stagecoach route between Austin and San Antonio. The town's growth was due to its location at the intersection of two major transportation corridors - U.S. Route 281 and State Highway 183 - as well as its inadequate infrastructure including only one store and one school in 1903 when it incorporation occurred. In 1954, Freeport became home to NASA's Johnson Space Center which later inspired other businesses such as Lockheed Martin Corporation to set up shop here as well; including Boeing Co., Mastercard International Inc., Motorola Solutions Inc., and Texaco Incorporated before eventually being absorbed into Houston-based Boeing in 1997. Today, Freeport remains an important commercial center within Cameron County with many high-tech companies headquartered hereabouts (including AMD Radeon Technologies Group Ltd., Applied Materials Ltd., Cisco Systems Incorporated et al.). The town has also become a popular tourist destination due to its relaxed atmosphere and beautiful countryside which is easy to enjoy despite limited access to public transportation or amenities outside of driving distance (~25 miles).
