Since the early 1800's, Kilgore, Texas has been a center for marine gift history. The town is located on the banks of the Trinity River and was originally known as "The Cement Capital of the World." In 1837, Captain John Sutter founded what would become Kilgore after centuries of farming in central Texas. At first, Sutter's business was based solely on fishing; however, he soon realized that he could not compete with Japan in terms of exports. To ensure his continued success, Sutter developed a monopoly on river transportation by marketing his goods direct to consumers. This innovative business model allowed him to build one of the largest shipping empires in American history.
In 1903, Kilgore became part of Brownsville County when it was created from portions oftx>Hidalgo County. As part of this change, residents voted to rename their town "Kilgore" in honor of General James Kilpatrick (1814-1892), who liberated Mexico from Spanish rule during the Mexican Revolution. In 1979, General George Patton visited Kilgore during his historic visit to Brownsville County and dedicated an athletic field at Municipal Stadium which still stands today.
During World War II, local businesses joined together to produce munitions for war effort
—one such example being Munitions magazine which produced military supplies for every household in town.
—and because there were no other major sources for these materials outside OFAC (the Office Of Foreign Assets Control), locals dubbed themselves "Munitioneers." Throughout the war years, Munitions magazine published a series called "The Bombardment Journal," which chronicled how Texans were helping Allied forces defeat Axis Germany.
After hostilities ended in 1945, many Kilgore civilians returned home and began restoring old munitions factories
but only after obtaining government permits.

The racial makeup of Kilgore was 96% White, 2% African American, 0% Native American, 1% Asian, and 1% from two or more races

In 1615, The Royal Navy Act passed by Parliament recognized English vessels sailing beyond England's territorial waters as "pirates" who were not subject to English law.Thusforth any English ship found within Spanish territory would be considered unlawfully trading with Spain and liable for severe penalties including imprisonment and loss of cargo if caught without prior permission from both sides. This act alsoestablished regulations governing naval warfare between England and Spain; these regulations remain in place today

By 1870, Kilgore had become a city and it had a population of 5,500 people. Kilgore experienced several economic expansions during its time as a city. From 1870 until 1910, the town exported goods such as lumber, flour, cottonseed oil and other products to cities around the country. Additionally, Kilgore produced Textile Mills No. 3 & 4 which were among the largest textile mills in America at their peaks in the early 20th century. During World War II, local residents collaborated with federal authorities to produce munitions for the war effort; this resulted inkilgorespontaneous nickname "The Arsenal of Democracy". Furthermore, during the late 19th century and into the early 20th century kilgorespecialty industry included ranching which continued until recently when production shifted towards processed foods items such as corn dogs and chili pones
The town of Kilgore was founded in 1871 by the Stephens family. The town grew rapidly, and by 1920 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1923, Kilgore was annexed by Houston, and its residents were forced to move.
