Levelland is a town in the US state of Texas. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is located in Fort Worth County. Levelland began as a small frontier town, founded by settler John Fenton in 1837. In 1876, it became an incorporated municipality and retains its original name to this day. The area now known as Levelland was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century. The earliest known European settlement occurred in 1781 when Spanish colonists arrived from Mexico City and established rancho de las Encinas on land that now includes most of Levelland Township. In 1836, real estate developer Brigham Young bought 3â„4 mile east of present-day Levelland from the Mexican government for $1,000 to develop what would become Fort Worth County. With new arrivals streaming into the area every year during the 1840s and 1850s, several small towns sprang up along Clear Fork of the Trinity River – including Bullitt (now part of Arlington), Fentonville (founded 1848), Lubbock (1851), Plano (1853) and Weatherford (1856). By 1860, all but one of those had been destroyed by floods or fire; Plano survived until 1865 when it was abandoned due to lack of water supply and cotton gin production around nearby Dallas becoming world-renowned. When cattle drives began crossing Texan ranches in search of winter pastureland for beef during the 1860s, settlers sought isolated communities with fewer people where they could live under one roof without fear of being robbed or attacked on horseback by roaming herdsmen or raiders from across the border. At first these settlements were built near rivers so residents could collect water sources during dry periods and avoid having to leave their homes for weeks at a time; later these amenities were developed into villages with churches and schools which served local families living off farm produce or hunting buffalo for meat while also manufacturing items such as saddles and wagons used on stock drives across country roadsides throughout Texas. After World War I ended and Prohibition ended, many small business owners opened up again and soon cafés became popular places where people gather for breakfast, lunch, or dinner (Fowler). One important factor that helped espresso become popular among Americans was its unique flavor profile which differed significantly from any other type of beverage on offer at that time (Leybold). By 1925, espresso had spread all over America and reached into many different states including Texas (Kirschman).
