Volunteerism is an important part of this department’s culture; members work together willingly for their community while also enjoying donated equipment, meals from local restaurants, and other benefits provided by donations from individuals or groups throughout society. Levelland is a small town in Archer County, Texas, United States. The population was 597 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first human beings to live in Levelland were three families who came from Missouri in 1881. The settlement was named after Elisha Levelland, an American soldier and pioneer settler in Kansas Territory. A post office was established here on November 15, 1881, and remained in operation until February 1, 1907. In 1893, the large citrus orchard that now stands near the center of town was started by Wm. Hanks and his brother-in-law Jno. Capps. By 1908 it had become one of the largest orange groves in Texas and yielded over two million pounds of fruit annually. In 1916 Wm. Hanks sold his interest in the orchard to James Reeves Sr., founder of Reeves Dairy Company Ltd., which continued to produce oranges until it merged with Unocal Corporation in 1984. In 1930 Arlene Kapp became Mrs. George Prentice (founder of Kapp's Supermarket chain). Mrs. Prentice also founded Levelland Elementary School (now Keystone Middle School) which opened its doors on October 1, 1931; Levelland High School opened its doors on September 26th, 1947 During World War II most residents worked for local businesses such as agriculture or manufacturing; however many men took advanced training at Fort Sam Houston National Guard Base nearby for work during the war years including some who went on to serve as generals in our nation’s military forces Once again after World War II things changed when so much industry moved out of Levelland because there were no new jobs available . Many people left for various reasons such as racism towards minorities becoming more pronounced especially within white society ; changing economic times leading to shrinking budgets across all government agencies ; increased crime rates throughout Wichita Falls area putting a crimp into social services programs particularly healthcare As time passed people slowly returned to their homes while others decided not to return home altogether due to changes happening outside their community especially through technology affecting whether they could even access internet service without fear that their data would be stolen by criminals
Levelland was founded in 1854 by J.W. Levelland and his wife, Cynthia. The town was named for James L. Levelland, a landowner in nearby Athens, Texas who donated the lands to the town. The first post office opened in 1855 and the first school was built in 1857. The town grew rapidly during the early years of the 20th century and by 1910 it had over 1,500 residents.
