Plano, Texas is a city located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and was founded on April 20, 1915. It is bordered by Arlington to the north, Collin County to the east, Denton County to the south, and Mesquite County to the west. The population of Plano was estimated at 181,815 as of 2017. The area that would become Plano was first settled by Anglo-American farmers in 1875. A post office called Plano was established in 1915, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1978. In 1916, John Tilton started selling land for a railroad station on Duck Creek near present day Hughes Road and Elm Street. Tilton named his new development Parkland after himself and donated $5,000 toward construction of the station. The first train arrived at Pkland Station on November 6, 1916. On January 8th, 1920 President Warren G Harding signed into law legislation creating Fort Worth Regional Airport (FORT WORTH AIP). On December 12th of that year Progress Airlines began service from Terminal 2 at Fort Worth Regional Airport serving Dallas/Ft Worth with routes out of Terminal 1 which had been built for military use only a few years earlier.
