The Richmond, Texas Marine Museum has a rich history dating back to 1892. The museum was founded by Capt. Fenton H. Bogue and his wife, Mrs. Lillie Bogue, in memory of their son, John Gentry Bogue, who died in World War I while serving with the United States Marines. The Bogue’s donated several thousand artifacts from their marine collection to the museum and it continued to grow until it became one of the largest maritime museums in the United States when it opened its doors to the public in 1972. Since then, the museum has collected more than 16,000 items related to Naval Ships and Marine Crafts including USS Constitution (1801-1899), USS Maine (1907-1941), USS Lexington (1946-1963), USS Tuscaloosa (1920-1966), USNS Courier (1923-2004) and many more vessels from both world wars and later periods. Many of these Vessels were on display at various ports around the United States before being moved or stored at various points until they arrived at RMC where they are now on display inside one of America’s most iconic naval museums!

In 1886, Richmond became home to America's first commercially run streetcar line when it linked its downtown with Isleta Streetcar Station northwest of town via a steam powered trackage system administered by trustees from nearby cities along I-10
