Robinson is located on FM 27 and has a post office with ZIP code 78727. The town was founded in 1881 by John Robinson and his family who named it for their father-in-law General James Fenton Robinson (1794-1865). The original store and school were built on what is now FM 27. In 1907, the community added a Baptist church which still stands today. In the early 1920s, several businesses including a brewery and two grocery stores were opened in Robinson by local farmers looking to take advantage of new trade routes that had been opening up due to the Great Depression. After World War II ended, many residents left for jobs in Austin or other cities because of budget constraints caused by the war effort. However, some continued to live in Robinson until its closure in 1984 when it became part of Hudspeth County's new consolidated government area (the "Houston metropolitan area"). Since 2000, much attention has been given to efforts to revitalize Robbins by creating public/private partnerships that have included land acquisition, funding from state and federal programs such as North Texas Regional Transportation Authority's Capital Improvement Program (CIP), establishment of an open-space preserve within miles of town center that includes parts of three large cotton plantations dating back to 1836/, mixed use development around downtown using recycled materials from demolished buildings as well as private property donated for this purpose; as well as various educational initiatives such as summer art camps targeting 3rd through 6th grade students along with after school programming offered weekdays during school dismissal time providing hands on learning opportunities outside traditional classroom instruction while also engaging young people in physical activity programming designed specifically for them within close proximity to their homes

The community began as a small settlement on the banks of the Trinity River in 1885. The name was changed to Robinson in 1907 when it became part of Archer City. In 1960, the townsite became an incorporated municipality with a population of 5,000. From its inception until 1957, Robinson had no school district; students were sent to neighboring Archer City or Midland for instruction. A new high school opened in 2006 and has since served as the community's main educational institution. In 1912, Armstrong Cotton Oil Company established a refinery on I-10 just east of town. The plant produced gasoline and other products until it closed in 1984 due to pollution problems. In 1923, construction began on what would become Robertson Community College; it opened its doors in 1924 and remains one of the most important educational institutions within Robinson today. Many successful business owners have been affiliated with this college including Drayton Waddell who founded Brownsville based Waddell Petroleum Corporation and head football coach Darrell Royal later played for Oklahoma State University and Baylor University before becoming general manager/coach at Waddell Petroleum Corporation from 1978-1981; also associated with Robertson CC are current Mayor Donnie Hardy (D) who has held office since 2002 after being elected unopposed duringthe November 2004 municipal election; former Mayor Joe Hargrave (R) who represented District 2 on TX House District 94 from 1998-2002 before winning his seat via runoffs against incumbent Irv Levy (D); current First Lady Dawn Lockhart (D) whose father also attended Robertson CC as an undergraduate; Current Congressman Garth Brooks’ son Brenton Brooks III (R). Fenton and Oliver W. Morton. The town grew rapidly and by 1841 had a population of 553 people. It became an agricultural center with large fields of cotton, corn, and wheat. By 1850, the population had grown to 2,500 people and the town had a school and a post office. The town was destroyed by a fire in 1861 and never regained its former size.
