The couple opened their shop on Broadway near the river. They served religious morning services and sold coffee beans from their truck. In 1898, Mr. Jansen donated his business to the Roman Catholic Church. The church used it as a storage building until it closed down in 1969. From then on, the business continued to be run by two sisters who named themselves Sisters of Charity (Sisters of Rome). The sisters started selling roasted beans from their store until they closed it down again in 1998. The last time anyone came into the Sisters’ store was when they were trying to sell an espresso machine for $299 because no one wanted to buy it because they thought it would never work again! Roma, Texas is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo– unleash area. Roma was first settled in 1868 by Italian Americans and named after Rome in Italy. The community was initially located on the banks of Red River south of Amarillo. In 1887, Roma became an incorporated municipality and in 1912 it annexed the neighboring town of Lakeside. Roma is part of the Amarillo– unleash area and has been a bedroom community for Amarillo since its incorporation as a municipalities in 1912. According to 2000 census data, there are over 12,000 people living in Roma Township with an estimated total taxable income over $100 million . The village hall serves as both municipal meeting place and social center for all residents of Roma Township including those who live outside the township limits or within other municipalities that share borders with Rome Township but do not have legal voting representation within their own municipality (such as Rocksprings). Roma is a small town in Texas, located about twenty miles northeast of Austin. The community was founded by Italian Americans in the early 1800s and has since grown to include a large population of Romani people. By 1898, there were over 100 residents living in Roma proper and 30 households residing outside of it within commuting distance to work or shops located inside Peralta's parkland area. In 1951, when Austin became an independent city, Roma gradually lost its importance as a commercial center due to freeway construction adjacent to the town limits (the current boundaries were established after Austin annexed much of rural surrounding counties). However, it has continued to be significant culturally due to its concentration of Romani people who continue their traditions such as music recitals and art shows (most notably those held each year at Guggenheim Museum Bilbao). In recent years there has been a resurgence among developers interested in redeveloping property around Rome that may offer new opportunities for growth including: office space/retail stores redevelopment/condo development/heritage restoration etc.; however none have yet materialized as Ofelia García-Sánchez believes that "the [romani] culture is not easily adaptable" into contemporary American society - she goes on to say that this could be one reason why few businesses have taken up residence around Rome lately despite offers from interested developers (García-Sánchez 2016).
