The Roma National Guard was organized on October 1, 1917. The regiment was redesignated the 106th Infantry Regiment on April 15, 1924 and again on November 1, 1936. The regiment was activated at Fort Bliss in San Antonio on November 6, 1941 and deployed to Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas for training purposes. On December 7, 1941, the regiment's colors were retired from service at Fort Bliss and flown to Corpus Christi for presentation to Colonel John D. Garland of the 118th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Regiment) headquartered at Lackland AFB. On January 24, 1942 the 106th Infantry Regiment landed at Salerno Italy as part of Operation Husky under General George Patton's Combined Army offensive against Italian forces in North Africa. After months of hard fighting they liberated Rome on May 7th after a three-week siege. They then fought their way through Nazi controlled southern Italy until they reached Naples where they relieved the 368th Infantry Regiment which had been defending that city since late fall 1940. In 1945 the regiment returned home to Roma Texas after campaigns in Europe and Japan with troops occupation duty throughout 1946-1949 including service along Iwo Jima during World War II -Operation Crossroads The 106th Infantry Regiment deployed again overseas to Germany in 1951 as part of Operation Atlantic Rebuild with units crossing into West Germany near Eberswalde am Main on October 9 just days before German troops surrendered following two years of armed conflict with Allied forces known as "the Wendepunkt". After leaving Germany" we went back east across Belgium then Holland to Rotterdam before going down river into Netherlands Antilles where we stopped for supplies at Arnhem before continuing upriver past Utrecht towards Curacao where we arrived September 8 1944).We disembarked there September 10 1944 and went into camp around Ensenada Beach just inland from Puerto Rico which is now called Harbor island

The first national guard unit was organized on November 15, 1790 when militia units were raised to protect New York City from British invaders. In 1865, the National Guard was reorganized as an all-volunteer force and designated as a reserve component of the military. Roma, Texas is located in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas and is part of the Brownsville-Odessa Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2010, Roma had a population of 10,828. The town was founded by settlers from Italy in 1851 as Romesimo and named for Rome, Italy. The name was changed to Roma in 1903 when it became a US Territory. In 1910, the town was renamed Roma after Italian immigrants who had arrived in that year from Louisiana. The community developed around three churches which served as their social and religious center. This led to the nickname "The Social Club" for Roma because most people associated their activities with those churches. There were also schools and stores which helped support the community economy. In 1954, Roma became an unincorporated community within Tamaulipas County when it was organized as a municipality under the provisions of Republic Act No. 5365 which granted autonomy to local municipalities within Mexican States along with certain powers regarding taxation and development control. However, due to its small size, there wasn't much development accomplished by Roma until years later when several initiatives were taken such as creating a library and arts center in 2007 which has since grown into one of the most popular cultural destinations in Tamaulipas County according to recent census data In 2013-14 Roma won 6th place among Uptown cities for “Best Place To Live” by Forbes magazine and two years later was selected for inclusion on Mexico City’s list of 20 Best Places To Live By American Citizens
