The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History in Seabrook, Texas during the Vietnam War. The gift history began with General George C. Marshall’s donation of a Piper PA-28-200 to the USAF in 1955. This aircraft became the first military airplane to be donated to the Air Force and was used for aerial refueling missions over South Vietnam. In 1967, Lieutenant Colonel James Halsey donated an A-4 Skyhawk jet fighter aircraft to the USAF. This aircraft became known as “The Fighting Falcon” due to its combat success in Southeast Asia. In 1992, Major General Richard Vining delivered an F-16C/D Fighting Falcon jet fighter aircraft to the USAF in Seabrook. This Aircraft became known as “The Viper” due to its successful combat record in Southwest Asia. The Seabrook Air Force Base gift history began with the installation of a plane in 1949. The base is home to the 1st Fighter Wing and the 354th Airlift Squadron, which provide airlift for military operations in Southeast Texas. From 1951-1969, Seabrook AFB was home to the 339th Bombardment Wing. In 1969, it was transferred to RAF Mildenhall in England and served as a depot for U2 aircraft. After closure of RAF Mildenhall in 1991, Seabrook AFB reverted back to its original name of Seabrook Army Airfield. In 1998, the 354th Airlift Squadron received an F-15E Eagle from Boeing Aircraft Company for use at Seabrook AFB. The squadron has since been replaced by the 514th Airlift Squadron (Air National Guard) which provides airlift support for federal law enforcement activities across Texas.
