The town's namesake, George Washington Seabrook, was born in Scotland in 1800 and immigrated to America with his father in 1821. In 1880, he bought the current site of the town from an Indian chief for $1 per acre. His family ran the ranch until it was sold off in 1907 to oilman Harry Fenton Sr., who built what is now the First National Bank building there that same year. In 1922, when Grayson County became part of the new state of Texas, Seabrooke had a population of just over seventy people; however, it continued to decline until 1932 when it had only sixteen residents left. That year saw another decrease as World War II destroyed much of the local farming economy; however, by 1945 the population had recovered somewhat thanks to wartime construction projects such as the septic system for Chilton Air Force Base (now DFW airport). However by 1990 only six residents remained living withinSeaboroke limits – all currently residing outside of its boundaries due mainlyto commuting issues caused by nearby Dallas or Houston metropolitan areas. Despite these negative trends over time – including several decades during which total population dropped below 100 – some aspects ofSeaboroke's history remain highly influential both locally and nationally: its role as an important center for agriculture during early 20th century TX rural development; its support for various branches of government during difficult times including prohibition (1930s-1940s) and Reconstruction following Civil War (1865-1876); most notably its pivotal role within Republican Party politics throughout many years through which it gradually lost influence; and finally recent efforts by locals to revive their fortunes via hosting events related exclusively or primarily theretoideans such as rodeo pulloffs or duck hunting trips among others have helped keepthe village alive even amid declinesover time despite those conflicts
