The history of the shooting galleries in Sulphur Springs, Texas dates back to the 1860s. At that time, the town was located on what is now the border of Oklahoma and Texas. The area was very rich with coal and mineral resources, and there were many small gunsmiths who manufactured firearms for local use. One of these gunsmiths, John A. Brownell, began manufacturing rifles in 1868. He soon became known as a leading firearms manufacturer in the Lone Star State. Brownell's rifles were used by both Confederate and Union soldiers during the American Civil War. Some of Brownell's most famous products include his Model 6 rifle and his Model 10 rifle. In 1865, Brownell partnered with George Prentice to create the first commercial handgun company in North America - Prentice-Browne Arms Company Ltd. This company manufactured handguns such as revolvers and pistols under various names including Colt Firearms Corporation, Winchester Firearms Corporation, Nighthawk Firearms Corporation and finally Phantom Arms Corp.. In 1872, Brownell started manufacture of shotguns which he named "Sulphur Springs". His shotguns quickly became popular among local farmers and hunters who needed an easy-to-use shotgun that could be used both recreationally and professionally. Over time, Sulphur Springs grew into a significant firearm manufacturing center thanks to its location within easy distance of major markets like Dallas/Fort Worth or Houston (both cities whose populations had exploded during the late 19th century). Many talented individuals from Sulphur Springs went on to establish successful businesses their own: John A. Brownell Associates Inc., Gulf States Ammunition Company (later part of Remington Rand), Western Arsenal Company (later Springfield Armory) etc.

Sulphur Springs is a small, agricultural town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler–Ft Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Sulphur Springs Water Company was established in 1892 by Colonel John W. Sulphur and Dr. J.H. Roemer to provide water for cattle and farming purposes in the area now known as Sulphur Springs. In 1907, the company sold its interests to Consolidated Oil Co., Ltd., which operated it until 1977 when it became a subsidiary of ConocoPhillipsTexaco Corporation. The original General Store remains open as a restaurant today and is one of two remaining buildings from the original company store building that were destroyed by fire in 1957; the other building still stands next to Interstate 35W near US 287 east of Sulphur Springs city limits along State Highway 288 (now FM 1562). In 1909, Fenton Auld built what would become Known as "The Belle Ranch" on an eight-acre lot west of downtown Sulphur Springs; this ranch served as home to many famous Texans including Governor James Bowie and Senator Joe Scurry before being purchased by Humble Oil Co., Incorporated in 1951 and then ConocoPhillipsCorp.; it later reverted back to ownership by Humble Oil Co., Incorporated before becoming an industrial park owned by Energy Transfer Partners LP.. In 1974, Sulphur Springs was annexed into Tyler with all but 2 incorporated towns within its boundaries; however, much of downtown retains some pre- annexation features such as unpaved streets and evidence of post- annexment growth - most notably high school's football stadium south side which seats over 1000 spectators Today much like during annexed time period there are few if any businesses or services specific to incorporation other than government employee housing currently located just east off I-35W exit ramp leading into Tyler

The name Sulphur Springs comes from the Latin word sulphur, meaning sulfur dioxide or gas that is produced by burning oil and natural gas. The first post office at Sulphur Springs was established in 1872. The town was founded by Methodists who named it after Sulpher Springs near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where they had been ministering for some time. The town quickly grew and soon became a popular stopping place for travelers on their way to Cedar Hill and nearby towns. In 1907, Sulphur Springs had a population of 350 people and it has increased to over 1,000 today thanks to the growth of agriculture and industry in the area. Today, Sulphur Springs is an important community with many businesses and services available including a library, grocery store/cafeteria, movie theater/theater, bank/money lender, medical center/clinic, day care center/preschools as well as numerous parks and hiking trails within close proximity to provide plenty of opportunities for recreation. Additionally there are several annual events taking place such as the Christmas season celebration known as Yuletide Festivals (a family-friendly event), FaulknerFest (an arts & culture festival), rodeo events during summer months as well as other festivities throughout the year which keep things interesting for residents and visitors alike!
