In 1898, Jethro Gibbs opened his first restaurant at 10609 Kirby Road in Tomball; it is now known as Gibb's Place Barbecue Shop & Brewery. The original name of the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Company was "Johnson Bros Coffee House". The company changed its name to the "Tomball Coffee Co." on July 1st, 1916 (the date of incorporation). On that date, Harry Johnson became the president of the company and Hilda Poe became vice president. The company operated under this name until December 20th of 1942 when it reverted back to its previous name - "Tomballd Coffee Co."

Tomball is a small town in Lubbock County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Nacogdoches Metropolitan Statistical Area. Tomball was founded in 1879 by Andrew and James Tomlinson. It is named for Captain John Tompkins, who served as lieutenant colonel in the Texas Revolution and later became a ranch owner in nearby Big Spring. The first post office was established in Tomball on November 21, 1879, by Andrew Tomson with the name of "New Beginnings." On July 15, 1886, it changed its name to "Tomball." In 1905, the town incorporated as a municipality under the name of "Tomball." The current mayor is Reggie Green. The area around Tomball has been populated since pre-historic times by various cultures including the Apache and Comanche people. The first white settlement occurred around 1879 when Andrew and James Tomlinson erected a cabin on what is now FM 620 about four miles east of present-day Tomball. The town's early years were difficult due to lack of resources and competition from other settlements which were established closer to water sources or had better infrastructure such as schools or hospitals. However over time development progressed apace with growth becoming more reliable through access to transportation (roads/freeways) and natural resources like oil shale near Fort Stockton which made possible both agricultural production (refining sugar into molasses) and industry (textiles). In 1865, the town became one of Ridgemont's towns when it incorporation took place. In 1876, Tomball had a population of 681 and was a small farming community with two stores and six homes. The population decreased to 586 in 1915 before increasing to 1,020 in 1920 before decreasing again to 969 residents in 1930.
