The Wylie Army Depot was founded in 1898 and became a full-fledged military installation in 1917. The depot played an important role in World War I as it supplied munitions to the army and also acted as a training ground for new officers and soldiers. In World War II, the Wylie Army Depot was again used as a military base, this time serving as the main storage facility for ammunition. In 1957, the Wylie Army Depot was closed down and its assets were sold off to other businesses. However, it is still remembered today for providing gifts to soldiers and their families during Military Appreciation Day each year.

In 1954, complaints were filed against several boys from nearby Overton who had vandalized several cars belonging to residents of neighboring towns during school hours; these charges eventually led to criminal prosecutions which resulted in reform within the juvenile justice system in Wylie through court-ordered community service (CAS) programming for some of those involved as well as deterrence for others who might engage in similar behavior). Wylie, Texas is located in the Lone Star State of Texas and was founded on March 12, 1885 by John W. Stephenson as a sawmill town. The town growth started slowly due to the lack of transportation and population growth in nearby Austin. However, the arrival of the railroad in 1886 helped to spur development in Wylie. In 1907, Wylie had a population of 1,500 and became an incorporated city. The city's first mayor was J.D. Payne and its first councilman were Vail Clements and Harry Kline. In 1916, Wylie annexed part of San Angelo which had a population of 10,000 residents at that time. This annexation gave Wylie a total population of 25,000 citizens by 1920 which helped tourbate rapid development in the city center area. The Great Depression led to decreased business activity but this did not stop new housing developments from being built throughout downtown Wylie during this time period- most notably Park Plaza Apartments which were completed in 1937). During World War II, many businesses closed due to wartime rationing but overall there was little impact on the city's economy other than some minor street closures affecting businesses near military installations (e example: Westheimer Street between White Street and South Lamar Boulevard). After the war ended however, many businesses reopened including several restaurants along Main Street which contributed significantly to resurgent downtown development during this time period- particularly around Park Plaza Apartments where several high-end hotels now stand today (such as Regency Tower TX). By 1970s Wylie had reached its current size with over 30K citizens living within its boundaries- making it one of TX's largest cities by that point (though Austin still dominated statewide ranking]).
