She was sold for scrap to Japan in 1941 and scrapped.
Wylie is a small town in Texas that has been around since the early 1800s. The town was once famous for its cattle and cotton industries, but those have all disappeared now that big oil and gas companies have taken over. Wylie is still a very small town, with only about 4,000 residents. But it’s culturally rich and full of history. Wylie was originally named after William Wylie, a Scottish-born lawyer who came toTexas in 1827. He built a ranch here and started trading goods with Native Americans. In 1848, he married AnnaBleeker, the daughter of a prominent Texan landowner. Anna helped found the Baylor University in Waco and played an important role in developing the city there. AfterWilliam died in 1852, his widow continued to live here until her death in 1937. In 1938, the town became part of the new county of Dallas when Dallas County was created from parts of four other counties. Over time, Wylie has become known as one of the most Hispanic- majority communities in Texas. Today it’s home to many Spanish-speaking residents as well as Texans from other parts of America who come to visit or work hereabouts.

Wylie, Texas is a town in Ellis County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1879 by Englishmen John and Elizabeth Wylie. It was named for Wylee Bridge on the Trinity River. The first post office in Wylie opened in 1881. A school was built in 1883 and a church in 1886.Wylie proper began to be laid out as an incorporated village in 1901 when it became apparent that the towns of Haskell and Carthage were too close to serve as convenient sites for settlers. In 1906, the name of the town was changed from Wylee to Wylie after John A. Wylie III (1854-1929), who had played an important role in its early development as president of the First National Bank of Lewisville (now part of Fort Worth). The growth of oil production along Interstate 35 made Wylie one of the earliest locations developed for such a facility; construction began on what is now ExxonMobil's Houston headquarters there in 1984 and continued until 1998 when it moved into its current location adjacent to downtown Fortune 500 company Executives Tower
