Centerville was platted in 1868 by wagon train drivers who were looking for a new location to stop after traveling through California and Nevada. The community quickly grew due to its proximity to Cache Valley and its easy access to railroad connections. By 1875, Centerville had more than 100 residents and six businesses. Today, Centerville's downtown contains a library, museum, post office, restaurant, pharmacy, as well as several shops including two banks. The town has experienced some growth in recent years thanks to the arrival of several high-tech companies such as Apple Inc., Intel Corporation and Microsoft Corp. Centerville is located in Bears Ears National Monument and is home to the Centerville Cemetery. The town was founded on July 10, 1884 by George Wetherbee and his brother-in-law Orville Hanks. The first post office was established in Centerville on October 3, 1884. The name "Centerville" was chosen for its location close to the Uinta Mountains and as a tribute to John C. Fremont who discovered Nevada in 1849 and named it "CENTERVILLE", after himself and his party of six men. In 1905, Centerville became a city with a population of 515 people when it annexed the neighboring unincorporated community of East Valley. In 1912, Centerville annexes Aspinwall which had been part of East Valley since 1902 but had not developed due to lack of commercial interest or transportation connections. In 1933, Centerville merged with nearby City Of Park City to form one municipality with a population of 2,025 people; however this merger did not take effect until 1934 because Park City's borders were still defined by their respective towns'. On November 15th 1957Centerville underwent an incorporation process that allowed it to become an official city under state law rather than being governed by local ordinance like most municipalities in Utah are subject to (e.g., Kane County). On December 4th 1962Centerville celebrated its one hundredth birthday with a special celebration attended by many top government officials including Governor George Romney and Mayor Clifford Browning from Park City; both cities also paid homage to centennial milestone with patriotic songs performed by citizens throughout both communities before dinner at the park's Regency Ballroom featuring Elk meatballs encased in sweetened condensed milk cake served hot off the cookers
Centerville was founded in 1845 by a group of Mormon pioneers. The town grew quickly, and in 1868 it became the first US city to be created from scratch with a population of over 100 people. Centerville prospered for many years, but during the late 1800s and early 1900s its economy began to decline as agricultural production collapsed in Utah and elsewhere. In 1916 Centerville merged with two other towns – Pleasant Grove and Lindon – to form the new City of Centerville. After World War II, Centerville experienced an increase in population due to migration from surrounding rural areas. However, its prosperity declined again during the 1970s and 1980s as oil prices increased and manufacturing losses reversed themselves. In 1990 Centerville was renamed Estes Park after Las Vegas businessman John AEstes donated $100,000 towards the town's development.
