The history of the Coast Guard in Herriman, Utah began with a few men who volunteered to help protect the town during World War I. In 1919, the requirement for a volunteer coast guard was eliminated, and a new Coast Guard station was established at Herriman. The first captain of the Coast Guard Station in Herriman was C.W. Brayfield. The first duty of the Coast Guard Station in Herriman was to provide security for local vessels that patrolled the Utah frontier. In 1940, patrol duties were transferred from the Coast Guard Station in Herriman to Fort Douglas Naval Air Station (FDR NAS), which became home to both United States Navy and United States Marine Corps Patrol Squadrons (VPs). In 1951, VP Squadron 2 was activated at FDR NAS and became part of V-2 squadron which support anti-submarine warfare missions off California coast. In 1961, VP Squadron 1 relocated from FDR NAS to its present location at US Customs House Annex on US Highway 95 south of town. At US Customs House Annex, VP Squadron 1 Provided law enforcement services within and adjacent to US Customs House Complex as well as providing air defense services against missiles fired by North Korea threatening Hawaii Island. On 7 Dec 1966, VP Squadron 3 activated at US Customs House Annex when it replaced VP Squadron 2 which had been cancelled due to budget cutsback by Department of Defense (DoD). Along with other squadrons affiliated with V-2 squadron at FDRNAS during this time period; VP Squadron 3 provided extra security for President Lyndon Johnson when he visited Hawaii during his visit through Honolulu Airport on 17 Dec 1966 just days before his assassination attempt in Dallas Texas VP Squadron 3 responsibility ended on 30 Jun 1968 when Commandant Vice Admiral Gwin assumed command over all United States Military Forces alongshore including USS Ponce(LHD 9) which conducted Tactical Sea Rescue operations while also conducting offshore oil exploration operations off Oregon coast It should be noted that although HQ USCG discontinued active patrols around HVRIMAN beginning 6/30/68 their air defense assets remained operational until disbanding 5/24/1970 following closure of Fort Douglas Naval Air Station

Herriman has a post office with ZIP code 84736 and an incorporated village called Herriman that includes both Herriman and Rockspring. The community was founded by Mormons in 1877 as a farmstead on what is now State Route 191. In 1912, it became a town when it was annexed by Logan County. The population grew slowly until after World War II when there was an influx of farmers from Iowa and other states who built homes around the town square. After Decatur Academy closed in 1968, the community lost its only high school student body but regained some growth through annexing nearby villages such as Rockspring in 1984 and 2000. Today, most residents are self-employed farmers or ranchers who work their land or commute to jobs outside of town each day; however, there are still several businesses in town including two banks and two grocery stores along with several churches and schools.

Herriman, Utah is a small town located in Kane County, Utah. The population was 2,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The first residents of Herriman were Mormon pioneers who came to the area in 1847. The town was platted in 1869 by J.B. Sargent and Wm. Hurlbut as a mining community on the north side of what is now Kane County. As the onlymining community in Kane County, Herriman quickly became known as "the most isolated city in Utah." In 1915, an amusement park was built on land near present-day Herriman and operated until 1938. In 1948, the town developed its own water system and post office which remained operational until 1959 when it merged with nearby Provo to form Provo-Herriman-Provo Township (renamed Provo-Harmon Valley after merger). The townsite of Herriman was acquired by Brigham Young University (BYU) from United Airlines in 1964 for use as a research center for BYU's agricultural engineering program; however, no university buildings were erected on the site until 1978 when construction began on what would become Campus Recreation Building No. 1 (later renamed McMurtry Hall). The first classes started in September 1978; however, due to budget constraints at BYU, Campus Recreation Building No. 2 was not completed until 1984 and finally property purchased by BYU itself in 1990 allowed building of new recreation facilities including Tennis Courts adjacent to campus and also includes six locker rooms/bathrooms plus two basketball courts and four multipurpose fields that can host up to 50 athletes at one time Today much of what once made up Herriman has been replaced or demolished with student housing or other development projects while some original settlers still live thereabouts such as Grady Gammage who ran a freight train stop out Front Street from 1902 into the early 1970s
Herriman was founded in 1868 by J.C. Herriman and his brother, John C. Herriman, as a Mormon Settlement on the southern edge of what is now Salt Lake City. The first settler in Herriman was Hyrum Judd, who arrived in 1868 from Ohio with his family. In 1870, Brigham Young appointed George Q. Cannon to be the first bishop of Utah and he organized the Church there in 1870. Afternoon services were held at Herriman until 1875 when they moved to Logan because of sandstorms that struck the area every few weeks. The first school building was built at Herriman in 1870 and it served as a church school until 1915 when it became a high school. In 1902, the property around present day Herriman was donated by Isaac Wirth to the LDS Church for use as an agricultural college campus called Provo Agricultural College which today remains part of BYU-Idaho
