Gourmet Coffee History in Kaysville, Utah Kaysville is a city located in the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains in eastern Utah. The population was 17,814 as of the 2010 census and it is the county seat of Kane County. The city was founded by two Mormon pioneers, George W. Smith and his wife Emma Winchester, on July 24, 1847. They named their new town Kaysville after Elder Orson Hyde's home village in England. In 1865 George W. Smith built what is now the first grocery store in Kaysville and became its first president and founder of the community bank which still exists today. In 1903 Gurney & Company Mercantile Store opened with $10,000 from banker William Gurney to promote commerce within Kaysville and among its citizens. In 1924 The Daily Herald newspaper merged with another local paper, The Evening Tribune, forming what would become known as The Gazette Newspaper Syndicate (now Gannett).
