In 1949, another new coffeehouse was built on State Street just east of Murray Municipal Airport. This coffee house continued to be popular with locals and tourists until it closed in 1978. They built their house on the site that would later become Murraytown while they awaited approval from the Mormon leadership to move into what would eventually be called Zion Canyon National Park. When this application was denied, they relocated their families to nearby Provo in 1875 under new leadership including Apostle Orson Pratt and President James Fenton Willard. With assistance from local ranchersand gold miners who had followed them westward during the 1850s Gold Rush, these early colonists built gardens, churches, schools and other infrastructure within a few short years of each other before permanent residents began arriving within months of each other throughout much of central Utah! By 1880 construction had progressed enough that Salt Lake City could be seen across the intervening valley floor – soon known simply as “Murray”!
