The district was founded in 1907 as the Utah National Guard, and at its peak it numbered more than 36,000 soldiers and airmen. In World War II, the North Salt Lake Army and Air Reserve District played a significant role in the Battle of Midway. In 1945, the district mobilized for Operation Overlord, which led to Japan's surrender. Today, the North Salt Lake Army and Air Reserve District is one of Utah's most important organizations, contributing significantly to both our state's defense posture and its economy. The district is home to more than 30 army units and 100 air units, including both active duty soldiers and reserve members.
North Salt Lake, Utah is a city in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 41,690 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Ogden–Clearfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. North Salt Lake is located on the south bank of the Great Salt Lake and straddles both banks of it. On November 15th of that year Mormon pioneers discovered gold near what is now North Salt Lake when they prospected for buried treasure near present-day Cedar City. By 1850 NorthSaltLake had a population of eighty five people and was known as "the place where gold was found." The town began growing rapidly due to its location on easy access roads and its ability to ship goods by boat across the Great Salt Lake. North Salt Lake, Utah is a city in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah. The population was 24,521 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Logan County and part of the Provo–Orem metropolitan area. North Salt Lake is bordered by Cache Valley to the north, Sandy to the east, Ogden to the south and west, and Richfield to the northwest. The first permanent settlement in what is now North Salt Lake was on Cedar Mesa about five miles northeast of present-day Logan Airport. A group of LDS missionaries from England arrived in 1847 and organized a community called Parkesborough on Cedar Mesa which they abandoned after six months because there were no trees or water available for farming. A new settlement was founded at what is now NorthSaltLake in November 1849 by George Fenton and others under leadership of Orson Pratt. The site was chosen because it had fertile soil with plenty of water resources, could be fortified against attack by Native Americans should they arrive, and would not be vulnerable to annual floods that destroyed many other communities around this time. In 1860 Brigham Young moved his family from Nauvoo, Illinois to Council Bluffs, Iowa so that he could start an agricultural colony called Deseret Holdings which would eventually become The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). In November 1861 Brigham Young organized a group including himself, his wife Emma Hale Young Pioneer (née Smith), their three children John Taylor Hyde (1861–1944), Wilford Woodruff (1863–1937) andigham Woolley Young Jr.(1865–1943) into a new organization called The Quorum Of Seventy which became operational on December 6th following their ordination as members thereof at Kirtland Temple with Father Lorenzo Snow as Official President. This organization soon became known as "the First Presidency." North Salt Lake quickly grew into one of Utah's most important cities due to its position as a transportation center for goods transported through Cache Valley and its location near various agricultural areas where crop production took place. In addition to being a major shipping point for goods moving upslope from Cache Valley into central Utah via Urima Pass or downslope towards Edgefield County via Weber Canyon, NorthSaltLake also served as an important commercial center during this time with several businesses existing until recently including Heaps Brothers grocery store located on Center Street between Second Avenue South and Third Avenue South; D&R Harvester Co.; Willard Wagon Works; JBL Radio Corporation; Armour & Jewelry Company; Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company; Zion National Bank Building #1 – currently home to Diamond Distributors - among others (see map below). During World War II NorthSaltLake played an instrumental role in providing foodstuffs for troops stationed in Japan while also housing military units barracksing nearby at Fort Douglas Army Air Field during 1942-1945 when it served as both an air base servicing bombers supporting Japanese operations against adjacent American forces while also offering some residents access to education opportunities during these hostilities thanks largely to Marjorie Payne Whitney's efforts at Deseret News Association Incorporated which she chaired at this time.) After years of growth within NorthSaltLake governmental boundaries eventually reached its peak when it included portions both northward along State Route 191A extending all the way down Interstate 15W past Hurricane Harry Guernsey Boulevard/Uintah Junction Road before terminating just short of Interstate 15E just east of Cottonwood Heights Cemetery before continuing northeasterly along State Route 191B becoming partorized only marginally within current City Limits until finally terminating near 900 West Seventh Street near today's Intersection Of I-15E And State Route 191A prior ultimately becoming history altogether with construction taking place primarily along I-15E rather than through Downtown Districts like it once did resulting in much less residential development taking place overall throughout much portion latter portion OF City Limits)In recent decades however Comprehensive Plan Revision Amendment 2 published effective January 1st 2023 changes all aspects aforementioned above resultant in ongoing land use battles still being fought especially regarding continued designation/use tax exempt status currently enjoyed by Heaps Brothers Grocery Store located on Center Street between Second Avenue South and Third Avenue South although large progress has been made signing agreements between various parties involved somewhat resolving certain issues)On July 9th 2017 shortly after 5pm local standard time approximately 400 people attended a public meeting held pursuantwspresidential zoning amendment hearing staged inside City Hall hosted by Mayor Greg Holland amidst concerns over potential negative impacts associated with proposed amendments thereto relating specifically To Heritage Residential Zoning Proposal sponsored By Mayor Holland pursuant To Comprehensive Plan Revision Amendment No 2))
