Smith and named for General James K. Ogden who had served as a colonel in the Union army during the Mexican-American War and as governor of Utah Territory. In 1911, Ogden became one of twelve U.S.-controlled municipalities within Mexico City's new public housing project known as "Pueblo Viejo". The goal of this project was to provide low-income families with affordable homes while also adding some level of social services and cultural enrichment to these residents. Today, Pueblo Viejo remains one of Mexico City's most popular tourist destinations with a wide variety of shops and restaurants available onsite including several Michelin starred establishments. In 1853, George A. Smith discovered gold near present day Ogden when he prospected for coal near Cache Valley; he named his discovery "Ogden", after General James K.. At first all but two buildings in town were built without any money or materials coming from outside investors - all that was needed was an idea for a better name! After some deliberation among friends and family members on what they wanted their town renamed (and no one offered anything better), they decided on "OgDEN" as an independent settlement name & began building businesses around it: banks (the First National Bank opened its doors on July 5th, 1853), grocery stores (the Merchants Exchange Store opened December 12th1854) & hotels (the Denver Hotel opened May 4th1855). On January 3rd 1863 President Abraham Lincoln issued Executive Order 6581 ordersing American flags flown at half-staff through April 1865 due to lack thereof following spring 1865 military campaigns in Virginia & Southwest Missouri; henceforth "OgDEN" would fly alongside our nation's flags throughout our war years! With so much history associated with it – both good & bad – it can be easy to forget just how dusty things can get herein little old Ogden… especially when you consider that we've only had ONE full year below 100 degrees recorded since 1895!!! And while it is definitely not everyone's cup o' tea (& I do hear complaints about how frequently things go too hot here!), living here has definitely made us more resilient thru tough times (& there have been plenty…) We're lucky enough to live close enough to downtown Salt Lake City (& wonderful Provo) yet still have access to all kinds ol' outdoorsy activities which makes up for any heat issues we may experience elsewhere!
