Sandy, Utah is a small town located in Weber County, Utah. The population was 1,848 at the 2000 census. It is home to the Sandy Air Force Base and Sandy Common Area. The town started as a Native American settlement in the late 1800s. The first European to settle in Sandy was George Washington Morrison. In 1881, James H. Gallup established a post office in Sandy and soon after organized the community into a village. By 1907, there were also stores, churches and schools open in Sandy.In 1920, the Uintah Basin Railroad was built through Sandy and began serving the community of Sandy and surrounding area. By 1929, all services had been discontinued due to financial difficulties that plagued the railroad company). In 1942, during World War II, veteran's housing units were constructed at the former Army Depot on present day Indianola Road ( south of I-15). Today these housing units are known as "The Halls".In 1952, when Salt Lake City was founded as an independent city it selected Sandy as its site for its new municipal center which would be anchored by two important government buildings: City Hall on State Street (now called Sheldon Avenue) and Government House on Main Street (now called State Capitol Boulevard).Since then many notable events have taken place within or around this small town including: key moments during both Democrat vs Republican UTAH General Election campaigns; Salt Lake City's official designation as an international city; establishment of First United Methodist Church which now has over 350 members from 25 countries inside of downtown Salt Lake City; Hurricane Katrina damage that included extensive flooding within downtown Cedar Rapids; numerous births and deaths among locals residents throughout those years such as Elmer Gardner who became one of only two people ever buried with full military honors outside of Ground Zero in New York City following 9/11/2001; major economic development associated with various Summit County pork producers who have ranches located close to town including projects such as White Sands Arsenal Ammunition Plant expansion project that employs 446 workers currently while another large project nears completion involving construction of $350 million irrigation system for agriculture along I-15 corridor between Cedar Rapids & Provo

The journey began with a long and difficult march over rough terrain that was covered in snow for weeks. On November 4, they arrived at the mouth of the Great Salt Lake. The group built their first homes and started to plant crops. They soon realized that they needed to be careful not to lose touch with civilization because they did not know how to read or write. In order to help them learn more about life outside of the valley, missionaries came into the area and taught them about Christianity and law. Soon, many people from Sandy came back home to join the Mormons in their new land.
