The first Coast Guard gift was a watch, which was given to Captain James Cook in 1776. The present Coast Guard gift history began in 1919 when the United States Congress authorized the establishment of a Coast Guard Reserve. On December 16, 1929, the first Coast Guard Auxiliary was organized and on January 1, 1950, the name of the organization changed to The United States Coast Guard. In 1970, jurisdiction over all U.S coasts was transferred from individual states to a single national government under the Department of Homeland Security. The current rank and insignia for members of The United States Coast Guard are identical to those used by members of other federal agencies with similar titles such as FBI or Secret Service. In 1969-1970, gifts were given out at various functions honoring Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class Mark Ahern who had been killed in action while serving withthe Navy aboard USS John F Kennedy (CVN 77). These gifts included an American Flag pendant and cufflinks made from bronze plated steel mesh that depictedChief Petty Officer 2nd Class Ahern’s service afloat and ashore during World War II as well as two books about naval aviation including “Warhawk: The Biography of Naval Aviation Pilot Group Commander Rear Admiral David Gass” by Don Hargrave and “Pilots: Essential Guide To Aircraft Maintenance And Flight Operations” by Hoyt Swayze. In 1987-1988, memorial services were held for Chief Petty Officer 3rd Class Darrell Lunsford who had died in action while serving withthe Navy aboard USS Nimitz (CVN 73). South Salt Lake, Utah is a small town located in Kane County, Utah, United States. The population was 1,481 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Provo–Orem metropolitan area. The name comes from the Spanish word "salta" which means "lake." South Salt Lake was platted in 1872 by locals who were looking for a place to settle after they got their land grants from Congress. When they found out that there wasn't enough water to make a good salt lake and that other communities were closer to Denver and Ogden, they decided to move away. They founded what would become South Salt Lake in 1892. The first store in South Salt Lake opened in 1893. By 1910, there were four grocery stores, two banks, two churches (Anglican and Latter-day Saint), and seven businesses with a combined payroll of $11 million.Today it has only one business: Holy Cross Catholic School which serves students between pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. One of the most popular places for tourists to visit in South Salt Lake is the LDS temple complex known as Temple Square where you can see an image of Jesus Christ on three sides and enjoy live music or performances every day during Lent season including Easter services on March 26th and October 22nd In addition to its religious significance, Temple Square also contains several exhibits about local history such as artifacts from prior iterations of the Mormon church's founding story Some visitors also take advantage of nearby hikes led by park rangers that lead up into nearby valleys or down into abandoned towns east of Provo

South Salt Lake, Utah is a city located in Cache Valley in the U.S. state of Utah. As of the 2010 census, the population was 12,853. The name comes from the local salt lake which drained into the Great Salt Lake after being mined in this area by Indians for centuries. South Salt Lake was founded as an early Mormon community on October 8, 1847 by Brigham Young and other Mormons who were traveling through what is now Weber County, Wyoming Territory on their way to Eagle Rock Canyon. At that time it was called Fillmore and consisted of about seventy-five people including Young and his family and twelve laborers hired by David Wigglesworth to clear land for cultivation. On December 4th of that year they reached what is now southern Utah near present-day Fillmore while still making camp at night on high ground which they named "Mount Carmel." As winter set in, they built a small cabin toouse themselves while waiting out the cold with no heat or fire possible outside their small shelter (now known as The Palace). They continued to make repairs to their shelter during spring thaw until May when snow started piling up around them so high that even wagons couldn't get through it and goods had to be brought downriver by boat before being unloaded at The Palace; finally breaching loose enough snow cover so wagon trains could travel overland along today's Highway 191 instead On July 24th 1848 Brigham Young decided to move forward with his group continuing overland until he came across some scruffy cows pasturing on what would later become Mount Carmel where he built a farmhouse which served as headquarters for all Saints east of the Rocky Mountains until Zion arrived in 1847
