Hervey Park, better known as St. George, is a small town located in northeastern Utah that straddles the border of Arizona and California. The population was 7,752 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest municipality in Arizona and the second-smallest municipality in California. The name "St. George" comes from Saint George (or Soter), one of Jesus' apostles who fought against King Herod before becoming his martyrdom figure. The abbreviation "G." stands for "George," while the initial letter of each word in the town's name (e.g., G2) appears twice on buildings and signs throughout town. When first founded in 1871 by Mormons pioneers fleeing polygamy laws in Utah, St. George was an isolated Mormon outpost surrounded by hostile Mexican territory. By 1890, when American wagon trains began to establish routes through Mexican territory between Apache and Yuma Reservations east of Phoenix, Mormon settlers had established several towns within easy driving distance of each other: Provo (to the south), Logan (to the north), Stroudsburg (west of Salt Lake City), Grand Junction (southwest of Denver), Payson (northwest of Flagstaff) and Fort Bridger on San Juan River opposite Juarez City, Mexico (). In 1892-1893 Brigham Young convened a conference at Council Bluffs, Iowa to discuss missionary work among Native Americans living around northern Mexico (). At this conference Brigham Young announced plans to pour out 1 million dollars into missionary funds over ten years so that wherever Saints went they would preach Christ’s message to all nations (). This investment would result in converts being poured into what is now Arizona (), Texas (), New Mexico () and California (). A few months later Young called another council at Santa Fe where he announced plans for two more missions: one to organize God’s people among Apaches living near Tucson () and one to convert Mexicans living along Rio Chico River east of present day Salt Lake City (). After surveying southern Arizona() with his new mission field map he decided upon a site for SaintGeorge just west of Tucson on Coyote Creek overlooking Presidio Heights () which would become home to many LDS immigrants during its early days including their founder Joseph Smith Sr.'s father Andrus Smith Jr.. In 1898 President Ulysses S Grant issued Executive Order 9 Wellman Memorandum No 2 ordering all military forces eastward “until such time as Commanding General arrives with instructions differently or until our country can be relieved by United States troops under proper orders” which included orders for US Army Lt Col Kearny commanding Task Force Cooke “to march without arms through portions adjacent to New Mexico() towards Albuquerque go down El Paso road thence due west up Rio Grande valley until you reach Socorro Hill…and then turnip your heels until ordered otherwise by Major General Pershing – this order will remain effective until superseded” Upon learned about these directives Kearny chose instead not only cross Mogollon Pass but also march northeast instead reaching Socorro Hill crossing just south southeast of Albuquerque On October 15th 1899 Kearny reached Socorro Hill after journeying over eight hundred miles non-stop across difficult terrain He found an open space below Donaitano Canyon surrounded only by mountains on three sides averaging six thousand feet high With no water available anywhere else he encampment became known as Camp Chase [] It should be noted that some historians have claimed that Kearney did not actually enter Socorro Hills butberry simply camped there because there was no place else available] In response Milburn wrote: “Noah entered into Bear Valley; David passed through Golconda; Solomon went round Jericho….It cannot reasonably be inferred from these facts that any particular individual penetrated any particular Hole; rather it appears that different individuals went different ways either because they were specially directed or were forced by circumstances beyond their control…..And if we are really trying to trace back every possible step taken since creation we should ask how long ago died those individuals concerned? Or how many times do we have Repeated Contact With those same people? I think not very far back at all…. These stories must be grouped together like events taking place contemporaneous with them rather than being set apart as separate stories”] Given this evidence it seems highly likelythat although various individuals may have gone different directions various trails led ultimately to Fort Worth[] One important outcome following Grant's order was increased numbering within military unitsEastward Movement Of Military Units Had To Be Authorized By Top Military Commander Which Includes Commanding General Who Designates LocationWhere Troops Are To March.]

Saint George, Utah is a city in the Wasatch Range of the Rocky Mountains west of Salt Lake City. The population was 15,535 at the 2010 census, making it the third-largest city in Utah. It straddles the boundaries of Weber and Davis counties and is bordered by Cache County to the east, Logan County to the southeast, Duchesne County to the south, and Provo County to the west. Saint George was founded in 1847 by Latter-day Saintsnominally under direction from Jerusalem. The first post office opened in Saint George on December 1, 1847. The history of Saint George begins with its founders. Brigham Young assigned James K. Polk as leader of a Mormon Battalion that would explore southern Utah Territory for potential settlement by Mormons. Polk's group discovered an area called Cedar Mesa which they named Cedar Creek after a Cedar tree that grew thereabouts. They also discovered what would later be known as Saint George Valley which they named Cedar Hills after nearby hills that were covered with cedar trees during their explorations. After exploring this area for some time they decided against further settlement and returned home; however, they left behind evidence that an ancient settlement had existed there including artifacts such as pottery shards and stone tools dating back more than 10,000 years old! This information was eventually found and excavated by Joseph Smith when he surveyed parts of eastern Utah Territory in1830–31! With new knowledge about StGeorge Valley’s ancient inhabitants (the Anasazi) Saints began building up settlements around present day Saint George Townsite starting in 1847 AD due to concerns about possible Indian attacks orinvasions into their land from neighboring Weber County . Elders Kimball and Orson Pratt led teams of men searching for acreative place called Garden Grove where Nauvoo could be built beside Cumorah (later Independence Park). After finding only sagebrush country near Garden Grove they relocated their families to what would become today’spageant ground immediately adjacentto Nauvoo Temple including present day blocks A & B on North High Street (now Foster Avenue). From here early Mormon settlers started surveysor mappingofwhatwouldbecomeSaintGeorge valleyin1849AD.(See Map opposite) In 1850 Elder Lorenzo Snow mapped out most current streetsandalleycombiningwithpresentdayblocksA &BonNorthHighStreetnearNauvooTemple.)
