The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History in West Valley City, Utah begins with the first group of Marines who arrived in October of 1917. The soldiers were stationed at Camp Roberts and began their training there soon after. They would later deploy to various locations throughout the Western United States before being sent to Japan in April of 1918. Upon their return they erected a large flagpole outside of the city hall which still stands today. In September of 1948, Marines from Company K1 sailed into West Valley City on board USS New Mexico (LHD-7) as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear. The event was celebrated by Mayor J. Dorman Willcox and other dignitaries with a picnic dinner and parade down Main Street. After the ceremony, members of the military bands played patriotic tunes while civilians enjoyed refreshments provided by local businesses. On July 24th, 1951, company M2 disembarked from Marine transporter USS Green Bay (MTI-1) at El Centro Naval Air Station for an amphibious assault against enemy forces ashore near Waco, Texas during Operation Neptune’s Spear II. West Valley City, Utah is a city located in Weber County, Utah, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Wasatch Front and borders Ogden to the east and Midvale to the west. West Valley City is home to Brigham Young University–Hawaii (BYU) and also contains various other universities and businesses including Microsoft, Marriott, Intel, Tyson Foods, Costco Wholesale Club warehouses as well as numerous stores dedicated to shopping for all things outdoors and outdoor enthusiasts. West Valley City began as a small farming community in 1887 when Daniel Coyle settled near what is now called Maple Avenue. He named his farm "West Valley" after his hometown of West Valley City in Scotland. By 1910, over 100 people lived in West Valley City proper with an average of 5 children per household. In 1912 GEOGRAPHY became an important factor in early settlement when John McKay bought land from James Whitehead for $5 per acre; he intended it to be a cattle ranch but quickly realized that the area would be ideal for growing palm trees and fruit trees which could provide him income while he developed the property further. As word spread about McKay's new enterprise, others decided to come down from their hillsides or drive into town for lunch each day during those early days before school let out so they could watch McKay work. By 1916 there were 6 bakeries open along Maple Avenue with 24 grocery stores servicing 3/4 of the total population within one mile of downtown! In 1922 Brigham Young University (BYU) was established in nearby Ogden by President Lorenzo Snow with instruction offered only through correspondence courses being offered instead of face-to-face instruction like at many other colleges then available; BYU's first students came from West Valley City! When World War II started on September 2nd 1939 BYU student George Aiken sent a carton filled with food supplies—storing them at Church offices across town until needed—to help feed troops fighting overseas! In 1949 Mayor Fenton Richards renamed Main Street “John McKay Boulevard” following BYU president Jens Jensen’s donation of $10K towards street name improvements which included paving and lighting surroundments throughout the entire city center! Today many locals still refer to Downtown as “McKay Boulevard” due its long history together with our mayor who has always been supportive of maintaining this nickname! Today we are blessed by our Mayor Harry Reid who took office in 1998 having served since 1994! He has worked tirelessly throughout his term making countless changes & advancements such as expanding both Bears Ears National Monument (& Gateway Park) & creating over 20 new parks totaling over 812 acres including Reedows Park just outside town limits!! We are also proud supporters of The Great Salt Lake Project which includes: The city offers vast opportunities for economic growth through industries such as manufacturing (+1% annual job growth since 2000), agriculture (+2% annually), healthcare (+6%), government (+3%), retail (+5%) & services (+3%). Additionally some exciting projects currently under development orStage I completion include: Downtown redevelopment: With plans starting back in 2006/2007 spearheaded by then Councilmember Rick Ostrofski (& current Mayor Harry Reid), millions $$ have already been put into rehabilitating Main Street correlating directly& indirectly resultingin increased business activity downtown alongwith better public transportation options making it easierfor residents not just walk or bike to get around!: Plans call for adding up TO BE AN ENTIRE DOWNTOWN REFURBISHMENT WITH ALL NEW BUSINESSES COMING IN FROM THE WEST VALLEY CITY AREA !!

West Valley City is a small city in Utah, United States. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area. The first reported settlement in what is now West Valley City was made by pioneers who arrived in 1847 during the Great Basin Gold Rush. They named their new town after President James K. Polk's ranch west of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The first post office opened in 1849 and remained open until 1896. In 1863, Brigham Young appointed George Wickersham as the first justice of the peace for Utah Territory; he served until 1865 when he became governor of Utah Territory and re-elected to that position two times before dying in office on January 12, 1870. Wickersham Park (named for him) is located in downtown West Valley City today. On July 15, 1890, Mormon settlers from Mesa Verde camped on east side of Cottonwood Creek outside present-day West Valley City limits while they built an irrigation system to provide water for sheep and other crops near what would become Zion National Park later that year. This event is commemorated with a replica cottonwood tree still stands across Cottonwood Creek near where the Mormons built their campground today. A group of about 60 LDS pioneers from Mesa Verde traveled north overland from Colorado Springs on October 14–1518 on horseback to stake out a claim just south of where Tanner Jacksons Garden sits today off I-15 Exit 187A southbound just past milepost 137 on US-6/US-9 today about four miles east of Draper Airport northeast corner intersection with I-215/SR 84 also known as Cedar Hills Rd east side intersection with Nacoosa Rdwest side intersection with Old Spanish Trail southwest corner between SR 84 and Cottonwood Dr northwest corner between SR 84 and Cedar Hills Rd southeast corner between SR 84 and Old Spanish Trail just outside present day Draper Airport northwest corner junction with Present day I-215/SR 84). West Valley City is a city in Utah, United States. The population was 72,711 at the 2010 census. The city began as a small settlement on the west bank of the River Jordan near present-day West Valley City Hospital and School District No. 1. It was named after Valentine's Day in 1881 when Hiram Bancroft donated land to the town for a cemetery. In 1904, the name was changed to West Valley City Hospital because of its location on the west bank of the River Jordan between present-day West Valley City Hospital and present-day University Avenue Elementary School. In 1907, it became part of University Avenue Elementary School's district. On July 16, 1951, West Valley City merged with Ogden into one city
