South Burlington, VT is a town located in the Lamoille County of Vermont. The population was 9,859 at the 2010 census. South Burlington is home to many businesses and organizations such as South Burlington Community College, South Burlington police department, and South Burlington United Methodist Church. The first inhabitants of what is now South Burlington are thought to have arrived there around 1000 BC. The town was named after Sir John Vere (1546-1623), an English gentleman who donated land in 1763 for the founding of Northampton Female Seminary. In 1814, Lord Jeffrey Amherst purchased 640 acres of land east of downtown from Colonel John Butterfield for $4 per acre. This area became known as Amherst Park. The first post office in town was established on December 15th, 1837. During the American Civil War, much of Vermont Confederate General George McClellan's army retreated through this area towards Montreal before reaching that city on October 11th, 1862. Northampton Female Seminary would be closed due to lack of funds after the war but would reopen two years later with new students and faculty under new management including women who had been brought over by Abraham Lincoln following his Emancipation Proclamation which ended slavery in America. In 1865, when New York statehood was granted to America and Vermont became a part of that state, South Burlington became part of New York City despite protests from its citizens who felt their community should remain within their own borders (the last time this happened was during annexation by Wisconsin). After World War II ended and southvermont reverted back to its pre-war status as a ruralcommunity surrounded by farmssteads until recently (though some development has taken place), many residents decided it was time for another growth spurt especially since so few jobs awaited those seekingentry into these fields throughout recent decades; however none quite rivals what has taken place over these past several decades or even reached where it once did: high school seniors graduating outwith dreams or no aspirations whatsoever beyond government subsidized housing developments simply because they were born into families too poor or too uneducated to get ahead otherwise; while middle class people have seen prices go up exponentially with little benefit ensuing either way; making life harder than ever before for everyone living paycheck-to-paycheck without any hope outside earning enough money just barely scraping by every month - let alone putting food on the table without having any children working long hours away doing something meaningful all day long outside school! Soon after, cartographers began noting references to “tactical coffee” on maps. In 1807, British captain John Jacob Astley brewed a pot of this coffee for use in cavalry patrols during the Napoleonic Wars. By 1812, most armies had adopted tactical coffee as a standard brew. During World War I (1914- 1918), many American troops drank tactical coffee as part of their diet because chocolate milk was not available on battlefields in Europe at this time. By 1945, most combat zones were no longer used or served tea so soldier's favorite beverage became known as "combat Coffee." South Burlington, Vermont is a town in Rutland County, Vermont, United States. The population was 7,859 at the 2010 census. South Burlington is the most populous town in Rutland County and home to many of the county's businesses and services. It is also the only municipality in Rutland County with a population over 10,000. The first inhabitants of what is now South Burlington were Native Americans who populated this area for centuries prior to European settlement. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now South Burlington were French settlers from Quebec who arrived around 1609-1611. They built a small fort on the east side of present-day Lake Champlain near present-day North Avenue and Washington Street. In 1664, English colonists arrived in search of new land to settle and began construction on what would become South Burlington. This was during King Charles II's war against France which led to increased French activity along the border between England and France. In 1664, Colonel John Smith founded an agricultural colony called "New Albion" which included much of what today makes up South Burlington including parts of Rutland County as well as Canada.smiths original town site lay within present day North Avenue and Washington Street just north of where it currently stands on lake Champlain near modern day Pembroke Road - making it one of earliest settlements in America located outside New York City or Boston (although there had been earlier settlements by Dutch people). On July 1, 1777, during the American Revolutionary War (known as the American Revolution), General John Burgoyne surrendered at Saratoga Springs after leading his army across New York State into Pennsylvania stronghold Philadelphia – resulting in British defeat at Saratoga Springs that season (the surrendering armies then retreated back into New York). This event marked an end to more than two years of hostilities between Great Britain and its colonies which had started withoston's capture of Fort Ticonderoga on April 14th previous year – marking British victory overAmerican forces at Long Island Sound weeks before! A plaque commemorates this pivotal battle located next door to current day North Ave./Washington St., just south of where Burgoyne surrendered: "Herein stood our Enemies Surrendered After their long Struggle". Nearby are several other battlefield sites including Oneida Lake where Battlefields Park preserves three sites associated with that engagement including artillery pieces still firing today; White Sands Hill overlooking downtown; as well as nearby West Point where Benedict Arnold surrenders his sword following his successful treason charge against George Washington that same day! Today many streetsakes surrounding these locations can be found throughout downtown South Burlington - giving visitors an excellent sense both past & present while exploring this vibrant community! South Burlington experienced rapid growth starting around World War II due largely to wartime demand for skilled labor generated by munitions manufacturing plants located throughout Vermont Yankee region – although some non-militarized industries have continued operations such as garment production through current day company names such as Uniqlo/H&M/Zara etc.. Many local residents worked hard helping support their loved ones during this time period with countless food banks being established specifically catering towards servicemen & women overseas..
