Danville, Virginia is a town in Fairfax County, Virginia. The population was 9,636 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Washington D.C.–Northern Virginia metropolitan area and its largest city is Arlington. Danville had been founded as an agricultural community by George Washington in 1799. The first coffee beans were roasted here in 1810 and coffee production continued until the early 20th century when it was replaced by other crops such as cotton. In 1912, Danville became the home of one of America's first Starbucks Coffee shops and has since become one of leading coffee towns in the United States.

In 1814, when Richmond fell to General Robert Ewing's Confederate forces during the American Civil War, most of eastern Virginia became Union territory. However, Winchester continued to serve as part of Confederate General Joseph Hooker's army until 1862 when he surrendered at Appomattox Court House near Petersburg

The first people to live in what is now Danville were two families who came overland from England on October 20, 1622, and erected a hut on land that still stands near present-day Fairview Road. From this location they surveyed much of what is now central Fairfax County and helped to lay out many streets and alleys today including those leading to I-495 and Interstate 66. In 1754, John Chapman established a gristmill here which became one of the most important mills in the area. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1875 but has been rebuilt several times since then as various businesses have moved into its former site including Danville Paper Company (now known as Capital One), First National Bank (now Wells Fargo), American Tobacco Company (ATS) and finally Verizon Wireless’s headquarters building which opened in 2008. Today, Danville remains a vibrant community with many small businesses dotting its landscape – some professional, some retail; all operating successfully within tight budgets while maintaining strong customer relationships. Some locally owned businesses have even gone national with successful expansions into other markets such as Tennessee and Kentucky!
