The United States Armed Forces have been deployed in support of various causes throughout the years. Sometimes these deployments are long-term and other times they are short-term. In Hopewell, Virginia, the United States Army Reserve has been Deployed for many years now. The army reserve is a branch of the military that is not required to serve in any active duty capacity but can be called into action at any time. The army reserve was first created in 1907 when there were only 8,000 soldiers in the country. One of the reasons why the army reserve has been so popular is because it allows people to donate items they may not be able to afford to purchase on their own. For example, if someone has a small child who wants a toy, they can give them an allowance and buy them something as well as contribute to the army reserve. This way, even people who cannot afford to purchase things themselves can help support their community by donating items that they do not need but might want or need in the future. Another reason why donations from people within our community are so important is because we all rely on each other for help during times of crisis or emergencies. If you are unable or unwilling to go into active duty, then you can still join forces with your friends and family and contribute what you know will make a difference without having any physical connection with our military members present on site. It is essential that we remember how much our community supports our military by Supporting their deployment through donations like this one!
When it comes to the military, there are a few things that always come with it. People who serve in the military often receive a range of gift items, from small things like hardware or knives to larger items such as tanks or firearms. Sometimes these gifts are given as part of an olive branch gesture between the service member and their loved ones back home, but other times they may be more personal. Whatever the case may be, army deployments offer soldiers and their families an opportunity for some really unique gifts. Here are five of our favorite examples!
The Hopewell Volunteer Infantry Regiment was organized on December 16, 1861, in Hopewell, Virginia. The regiment served until it was mustered out of the Union on June 30, 1865.
Hopewell is a small town in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Potomac River and is east of Alexandria. The name Hopewell may be derived from the word "hop" meaning "to go forward," and "welk" meaning "a mill stream." Alternatively, it may come from an English place-name such as Hopley or Hovey. In 1675, Colonel John Smith named three places in Prince Edward's County - Hopewell, Harveysville and Burleysville - after his wife's relatives. In 1732 William Byrd founded what is now Hopewell on land that he had purchased from Captain John Smith for $1 per acre (or £0.50). By 1800, over 100 people lived in Hopewell; 15 were farmers and 50 were mechanics. Cavalrymen stationed at Fairfax Court House used the nearby ford to cross the river bed during their patrols. When Alexandria was founded in 1801, Hopewell became its first post office; by 1810 it also boasted one of Alexandria's two churches (the other being Sts Peter and Paul). By 1830 only five residents remained in town; all but one of these had moved away by then to larger communities within Fairfax County or to Northern Virginia altogether. In 1855 a group of Baptists led by Rev James Baugh established themselves at what is now called New Hope Baptist Church on North Water Street near Fort Myer Army Base. The community rapidly grew with new housing developments being built along both sides of Water Street between 1860 and 1870 inclusive - these included: Hope Towne School (1860), First Universalist Church (1870), Nobles Chapel (1892), Eastern Christian Orthodox Cathedral (1928) and current day Christ Episcopal Church which opened in 2006 adjacent to NewHope Baptist Church where Baugh served as rector until his death in 2013. Baugh is buried next to fellow Baptists Rev George Washington Carver and Dr Benjamin Spock at Arlington National Cemetery. In 1899 Shockoe Bottom amusement park opened near present day Pentagon City Shopping Center across from Interstate 95 – making Hopewell one of only two jurisdictions within Greater Washington D C which allowed amusement park entertainment. In 1951 local dentist Dr Willis Love started providing dental care services through his hopestead office located on West Main Street. At some point between 1959-1960 & 1977-1978 a grocery store operated out of a building located behind First UniversalistChurch(now defunct). After years of neglect this building was abandoned & fell into disrepair until it was bought by newcomers who converted it into an apartment complex known as Park Place Apartments.(now inactive)
