The history of the Coast Guard in Manassas, Virginia dates back to 1814. The first Coast Guardsman were recruited from among the wealthy and influential in the area. It was not until 1854 that a permanent Coast Guard station was established in Manassas. From that point on, the Coast Guard played an important role in law enforcement and public safety in the region. For example, on a recent trip to Maine, the Coast Guard was called in to help with a problem with some boats. The Coast Guard has been working together for centuries and has many different missions. Some of the best things about being a part of the Coast Guard is their sense of humor. For instance, during our trip down to Maine, one of the officers had to clean up after a real life Pirate raid that took place earlier that day. He had all sorts of fun discussing this event with everyone who was there! It shows how much they enjoy their work and how grateful we are for their help!

The first coast guard officers were appointed by George Washington and they served for eight years. On May 15, 1809, Congress created a new coast guard service called the United States Marines. The Marines were stationed at Fortress Monroe and had authority over all American waters from Canada to Cuba. The Marine Corps was disbanded on December 13, 1842 when it was merged into the newly formed U.S. Army.
Manassas is a small town in Fairfax County, Virginia. It is located on the Potomac River, and has a population of about 12,000. The town was founded in 1799 by General Washington and his army as a temporary encampment while they were fighting in West Virginia. Manassas grew rapidly after the end of the American Civil War, and by 1881 it had reached its current size. In 1947, Manassas became part of the newly created Loudoun County. Today, Manassas is known for its annual Confederate Memorial Day parade which features military veterans from all over America and internationally. The town also has several commercial businesses which provide local jobs. There are also a few schools within walking distance of the community that offer public education. The history of Manassas goes back much further than just its present day though. The area that now makes up Manassas was originally inhabited by Native Americans who called it “Makonnen” meaning “place where trees grow” or “the place where I will die” according to one account. There are references to this community even earlier dating back to before European colonization began. In 1607, when Jamestown was established as an English colony on Roanoke Island off North Carolina, Colonel John Smith discovered what would become Manassas Creek (now called Kanawha River). Smith named this stream after General George Washington's headquarters at Fairfax Court House in Northern Virginia at the time- manning it so he could cross without being detected by British forces posted along the creek bed nearbyabouts Monocacy Pointe on Capes Street near modern day Arlington Cemetery- thus effectively naming one of Prince Rupert's original land grants after himself! As early as 1749 Captain James Cook visited what is now eastern Fairfax County and noted that there were two forks in the creek – one flowing southward through Loudoun County into Prince Edward Island and another flowing northward into Fairfax County via what is now Route 301 near modern day Reston Road). Captain Cook recommended that both forks be combined into one stream so that travelers could easily find their way between them without having to check each fork individually! This idea soon came true with Captain John Smiths help – today we call this approach "Monocacy" because both forks connected right next door to each other across Monocacy Creek.- Today's Alexandria Naval Air Station sits on land formerly owned by Makonnen Tribe members.- Many buildings still standing from early 1800s colonial life including Friendship Baptist Church built by pioneer Christians who first settled here - Long Branch Turnpike (now Colonial Parkway) ran through town center providing access to river crossings
