In 1860, John Fenton reopened his business at 331 N St NW called The Eagle Pub & Coffee House which became one of the most popular spots for cup of Joe residents in town. In 1814, during the American Civil War, Union General Gouverneur Morris traveled through Manassas to assess Confederate forces before their attack on Fredericksburg. In 1865, after three days' fighting near Sharpsburg Heights near Manassas Junction, Confederate General Robert Ewell took control of Maryland Heights (now Arlington Cemetery) with his Ninth Corps and began shelling Fort Myer within minutes of its entrance into action that morning. After Ulysses S Grant's army arrived within range early that afternoon EDT-3 July 1865 (4 July 1865 in real time), Confederate artillery opened fire for almost six hours without cessation until 10:00 am EDT-1 July 1865 when it finally stopped as orders came from higher headquarters not to fire any longer due to fear they would shoot down Federal troops while reloading their cannons! Some sources assert that up to 1,500 Federal troops were killed or wounded in this engagement; however most historians agree that there were no more than 50 casualties among American soldiers who fought at Gettysburg... including many Medal Of Honor recipients! This debacle did much damage to morale inside Confederate ranks as well as among supporters outside VA., which ultimately contributed to Grant's successful offensive two months later at Appomattox Court House+. In all honesty it was one helluva lesson learned by our boys-learned hard and quick!

On July 25, 1944—the day before D-Day—manpower from 3 U.SAAF Air Forces units attacked two key bridges over James River near Anacostia Heights: Fort Myer (now Arlington National Cemetery) and Fortress Monroe (now Hampton Roads). These attacks were successful in isolated areas but failed overall due to heavy resistance from American forces led by General Dwight Eisenhower and Rear Admiral Chester Nimitz. As a result of these operations German commanders decided to abandon all plans for an amphibious assault on Europe and instead focus on breakout campaigns into Austria and Czechoslovakia instead. After World War II ended, Manassas reverted back to its rural agricultural roots as most residents engaged in agriculture or other manual pursuits such as fishing or masonrywork rather than professional careers like engineering or business administration which had become popular after war resources were exhausted or new technologies had emerged that could be used more effectively in warfare such as jet aircrafts and armored tanks
