Norfolk, Virginia is known for its delicious artisan coffee. The city has a rich history of coffee production dating back to the 1800s. today, Norfolk’s coffee industry produces more than 100 different types of Ethiopian, Italian, and Colombian coffees. The first place to produce espresso in Norfolk was the Bella Vista Coffee House on King Street. In 1892, Dutch immigrant Hendrik Janse started brewing coffee in a small house on Union Street. By 1907, Janse had moved his business to Cannery Row and developed a reputation as one of the most experienced and successful espresso brewers in Norfolk. In 1922, Italian immigrants Luigi Ciccone and his brother-in-law Giovanni Rosati founded La Caffetteria Rocca dei Paolière on Herringbone Road in what is now part of the University Circle neighborhood. At La Caffetteria Rocca dei Paolière, Ciccone began producing high quality espresso beans direct from the beans he bought from farmers near Rome. Between 1923 and 1929, Ciccone brewed coffee for Umberto Eco at his villa on Long Island before moving to Norfolk to open La Caffetteria Rocca dei Paolière at 519 Queen Street in 1924. It was here that Ciccone introduced his famous Torino Koffee blend which continues to be popular today. In 1927 Vincent Chin made headlines when he was stabbed outside of an Italian restaurant in Portsmouth by an unknown assailant wielding a knife coated with arsenic intended for Chin’s food (the motive remains unknown). As a result of this attack, international attention was focused on Norfolk and its coffee industry as it began to develop beyond just espresso production into full blown roasting and retail businesses.

Norfolk is a small town in Eastern Virginia, located on the banks of the Elizabeth River. The population was 21,912 at the 2010 census. The town is home to Norfolk Southern Railway's Norfolksville Yard and many factories and businesses. Many people in Norfolk are descendants of those who arrived in what is now Norfolk in 1609. Norfolk has been inhabited by humans since at least 7500 BC. In AD 10000, there was already evidence of a culture here that came from Taiwan. The first Europeans to come through this area were French traders, looking for trade goods with China and India. They built Fort Necessity on the James River opposite today's downtown Norfolk after they had discovered an abundant salt water harbor hereabouts. The first English settlers in present-day Norfolk reached out from old England around 1609 when Captain John Smith sailed down the Chesapeake Bay as part of his exploration of North America. He sighted what he thought was an island but it turned out to be mainland Virginia Beach on July 14th, 1609 near modern day Portsmouth,Virginia After exploring this new land for weeks he landed his party at Jamestown Island which he named "New Norway" due to its resemblance to Norway's capital Oslo In November 1619 Governor Thomas Fairfax sent a detachment led by Captains Christopher Newport and John Ratcliffe overland from London back up the Potomac River all the way to Hampton Roads where they anchored off Princess Anne's Dock on December 6th Onboard their ships were more than seventy passengers ( twenty-one natives) including women and children who disembarked ontoshore before marching into town under escort provided by Company Lieutenant Francis Berkeley James I gave orders for them not only to live but also work on improving Richmond Roads while he supervised events in England A group of these Virginians founded West Point Military Academy some miles distant from today's downtown Norwichuz one result being that nearly every family living within two blocks of wharf converted their houses into schoolhouses between 1714-1729 One result also likely thereof being increased opportunities for education among local civilians given early access indoors due to lack of trees or other natural facilities close at handDockside taverns such as Tavern Royal became popular places for socializing during times ashore because no streetlights could be seen approachable inside nor did any fires burn aboard ship so large gatherings could take place without fear someone would steal food or fire starters While ashore no liquor could be bought or consumed inland Alcoholic beverages were still sold along waterfront areas later becoming known as "the grog shops"

While there is no one exact definition for what an "artisanal" cup of coffee means, it typically denotes a product that is hand-selected and roasted by an individual craftsman or business owner exclusively for their own consumption. This designation has allowedfor some amazing variations in taste, texture, coloration, and even smell – all courtesy of those fine beans!

Norfolk was founded in 1622 by Sir Walter Raleigh, who named it after the capital of England. The town grew rapidly during the 18th century, thanks to its lucrative trade with North America and Europe. It became a major port on the Virginia Peninsula and prospered as a commercial center. However, the town's growth came at a cost: many of Norfolk's residents were slaveowners, and their plantations produced large profits for their masters. This economic inequality caused much resentment among the city's poor citizens. In 1787, Norfolk seceded from Virginia and formed its own state; it retains this status today. Norfolk quickly attained some of Virginia's most important political distinctions during the 19th century. For example, it was one of the few cities to refuse integration into the new United States during the Civil War (1861-1865). In addition, councilman John Auld played an instrumental role in developing Richmond as one of America's great metropolitan areas during this era. During World War II, Norfolk played an integral role in both military campaigns against Japan and in providing food and other supplies to Allied forces fighting in Europe. Its economy also grew significantly after Pearl Harbor; many factories were built in what is now downtown Norfolk to produce munitions for World War II. Afterward, Norfolk began to decline as a manufacturing center but has since regained some of its former prosperity through various redevelopment efforts.
