Poquoson is a town in Prince Edward County, Virginia, United States. The population was 4,694 at the 2010 census. Poquoson is part of the Alexandria, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Poquoson was James Nicholson who arrived on May 10th, 1777. Nicholson built a log cabin on the current site of Main Street and named it after his home village in England - Potosiun. On October 1st of that same year, President George Washington visited Poquoson and inspected local defenses before departing for Lynchburg to assume command of American forces during the French and Indian War. In 1802, John Lewis arrived with his family from South Carolina and homesteaded on what is today Middle Road northeast of present day Poquoson. Lewis helped organized the fishing community which grew around him along with others including Elisha Fenton (1804-1892), Jacob Stockbridge (1807-1897), Amos Kendall (1810-1893) and Nahum Gee ( 1812-1901). On July 25th 1861 – just over one year after Virginia's secession from the Union – Confederate General Robert Ewell invaded Prince Edward County looking for reinforcements for his impending Invasion of Maryland . When encountered by Captain Nathaniel Payne who commanded an infantry brigade in Fairfax County task force which opposed him at Magna Carta Bridge near Laurel Hill Cemetery no resistance was offered by either side but when night fell Ewell learned that there were more men available to oppose him if he attacked immediately so he made his retreat back across river Rappahannock without fighting or looting any property passing through our town limits! A few days later a detachment under Colonel John Morehead captured & destroyed a bridge over Potomac River just east of present day POQUOSON while engaged in this general harassing operation! This event marked both sides' ultimate failure to gain an advantage against each other considering that there were much larger army concentrations elsewhere as well as strategic advantages enjoyed by Confederate commanders such as General Jubal Early northward march into Maryland !! In short; We simply did not have enough men to provide effective opposition to Confederate General Robert Ewell !! Aouth Presbyterian Church located on Market Street dates back to 1787 when Rev James Parish moved from Williamsburg toPoquoson with his family following service attendance at St Andrews Episcopal Church on Monument Square latterly used as Civil War Soldiers' Home until 1865 when it became known as Kingsborough Female Academy still functioning today as one of Northern Virginia's most prestigious private schools offering scholarships/grants numerous undergraduate programs leading up to professional degrees + graduate programsvirginia society has bestowed upon it its highest distinction ever awarded its “ Award For Distinguished Achievement” naming it "Pequoosa" honored annually since 1966

Luyken took some of the beans back to Amsterdam and started selling them under his own name. In 1656, he founded the first noted store for buying and selling spices and articles related to food production in Amsterdam. This store would become one of the most important commercial hubs for Dutch merchants during its time period. Dutch traders continue to explore Java until their departure in 1699, leaving behind many different types of beans including maga coffee. The Dutch name for this bean - Koffie - eventually became internationalized and spread throughout Europe and North America after they left Java. Poquoson is a town in Virginia, United States. The population was 7,859 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous incorporated community in Fairfax County after Herndon. Poquoson is located on the Potomac River between Falls Church and Manassas City. The area that would become Poquoson was first settled by Native Americans in the late 17th century. The first permanent European settler was James Troup who erected a farm on present-day Route 27 in 1792. In 1814, General John A. Armstrong founded Fort Armstrong near modern-day Poquoson to protect Ulysses S. Grant's army moving through Loudoun County during the Mexican War of 1846-1848; it served as headquarters for several days before being abandoned due to lack of food and water supplies. In 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewells used Poquoson as his base of operations while his army fought against Union forces at Bull Run outside Washington D.C.; Confederate General Jubal Early arrived at Poquoson about two weeks later and began construction of an unfinished bridge over the Potomac River there which he called "Johnnie Walker" after himself; this crossing became known as "Ewell's Bridge". In 1865, during Reconstruction following the American Civil War, many African Americans moved from south central Virginia to Poquoson; this Migration increased when free black men were given land grants in eastern Fairfax County following Reconstruction. In 1870, four churches were built: First Presbyterian (later Episcopal), Second Presbyterian (later Methodist), Third Methodist (later Baptist) and Fourth Baptist Congregationalist (now United Pentecostal). Of these only First Presbyterian remain today with around 250 active memberships across all denominations including Missionary Baptist Association affiliate “Church of God” also based here since 1906). On December 20th 1886 local school board member Mrs Anna Ladd approved erection of one blockhouse on topland east side of Potomac River opposite current home site for new Post Office building now Federal Building - future USPS annexe - shown on map below but little did public know name assigned until substantial damage done February 1888 when major fire destroyed venerable Great Northern Depot just west end Railway trackage leading into town
