The history of Edmonds goes back over 350 years as an agricultural community that grew up around two small lakes: Northpointe Lake and Southpointe Lake. In 1892, after purchase by General Edwin M. Grant from the Squamish people for $10 per acre (about US$ in ), Edmonds became one of the first towns in Washington Territory. On October 15, 1892 – just four days after territorial incorporation – the Territorial Legislature designated it as a city within King County. With its railroad connection to Seattle and its numerous stores and businesses, Edmonds rapidly emerged as an economic center throughout the early 1900s during what was known as "the boom" period for Seattle's fledgling cityscape. In 1916 when annexation by King County increased its population to 509 residents (making it then second only to Seattle itself), Edmondians adopted a new city charter which allowed them more say in local government affairs than had been granted to other inhabitants of adjacent rural counties such as Snohomish or Kitsap . This forward-thinking approach led quickly to development on both sides of Northpointe Lake with new housing developments surrounding Southpointe Lake; today these areas are known collectively as DowntownEdmonds . DowntownEdmonds saw continued growth following World War II until reaching its peak in 1970 when 7,000 residents lived there; however this era also saw significant gentrification with many single-family homes being replaced by multifamily dwellings catering to high-end professional clients and employees who commuting into downtownEdmonds via light rail or rapid bus service

Edmonds is a small town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kitsap Peninsula Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Edmonds was Capt. George Vancouver in 1792 and he named it "New Archangel" after Archangel Michael, the patron saint of Seattle. The area was first populated by Native Americans, who called it "Nisqually". In 1851, John Jacob Astor moved his family from New York City to Tacoma and founded the Astor House on Puget Sound (now North Capitol Hill). In 1853, he commissioned Edward Harkness to design a new Public Library building on Second Avenue in downtown Edmonds. The library opened in 1865 and became one of the largest public libraries in America. In 1863 rancheros Joaquin Flores and Manuel Martinez established the Juanita Rancho Adobe near present-day Edmonds as their speculative farm operation grew into a large ranch that totaled over . Mexican American workers replaced white labor on these ranches during World War II; many were drafted into military service or worked for Boeing Aircraft Company yards in Seattle while they awaited discharge or re-entry into society. Most of these people never returned home again after World War II ended; most have since passed away without leaving any descendants living in Edmonds.
