Lake Forest Park is a census-designated place located in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle–Tacoma metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1892 by businessmen George and Fanny Jarvis as a site for a new agricultural college. In 1898 it became an incorporated village and in 1912 it became a city with its own government. Lake Forest Park's first mayor was John Mclntyre (1859-1927). Other notable mayors include Harry Houdini (1920-1924), Alice Paul (1936-1945), and Leon Jaffe (1967-1975). In 1954 Lake Forest Park annexed parts of the nearby town of Bothell to form its own municipality. That same year, the city council passed an ordinance allowing citizens to vote on municipal issues separate from their county voting rights. The following year, voters approved annexation into King County by a wide margin. The city has since grown rapidly, annexing more jurisdictions over time: Bothell in 1955; Maple Leaf in 1965; Everett in 1970; Kirkland in 1975; Redmond Hills in 1980; Magnolia Heights in 1990; and finally Bellevue last summer after years of planning and discussion. Today, Lake Forest Park has 2 wards (two sets of elected officials) which are responsible for all public services within the limits of the park including zoning laws & development regulations as well as providing law enforcement services & firefighting support
